In replacing the timing chain/gear upon a cam upgrade should I go with the stock replacement or is there something better?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO REPLACE, A STOCK SET WILL FIT THE BILL, BUT WITH A CAM OTHER THAN FACTORY SPEC, YOU MAY WANT TO GO WITH AN ADJUSTABLE CHAIN AND GEAR SET. THESE ARE AVAILABLE FROM MOPAR PERFORMANCE AND MANY OTHER PURVEYORS. MOST REQUIRE SOME MODIFICATIONS TO THE CAM, I.E. DRILLING ADDITIONAL HOLES FOR RETENTION AND ADJUSTMENT. WITH THE FACTORY GEAR SET, A VEC IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO MODIFY THE FUEL CURVE.

It really depends on who is doing the install and the degree... There are ways to make the stock chain work...But you have to think!

Are you going to run your cam advanced??

heres what ive been told;

"The cam is ground on a 115 lobe seperation and should go in 1 to 2 degrees advanced, which will put the intake lobe centerline 113-114 ATDC. It's ok to be off a little. the acceptable range would be 112 -114. It's hard to get them perfect with a chain drive"

so based on this what aftermarket should i go with for the timing chain kit?

A adjustable kit is always a better solution as long you know how to use it.

V10 MOJO,

Not that I am putting a cam in my car or anything because it is bone stock, but I just purchased a Cloyes True Roller Hex-A-Just timing gear / chain set from More Performance (704-393-8241 www.MorePerformanceInc.com). Their Part number CLO 9-3152A. It was $189.00, just a few dollars more than the stock set, is fully adjustable, and much stronger than stock. Of note, it uses a 3 bolt gear so your cam will need to be modified for 3 bolts (Arrow will do this for $50 which includes the bolts) if it doesn't come that way. While it is apart, you should go with the three bolt set up anyways.

Hope this helps.

Happy holidays.

Regards,
