Re: Tire testing. Which is best? Here\'s the link.

Good article!

I actually ran the very new Bridgestone Potenza S-03's on my AWD twin turbo VR4. The S-03 claim to fame over the S-02's is that they are suppose to keep their like-new wet performance better as the tires wear. Here is Portland, that is an important feature.

My feeling was that the wet performance of the S-03 was good but probably no better than the Pilot Sports seem to be on my Viper. I actually get wheel hop instead of just wheel spin on wet pavement with the Pilot Sports if I push it. I think that is a pretty good indication of just how much wet traction they have. Tires are fairly new (2500 miles), so I don't know if they will lose a lot of wet traction as they wear like some other tires do. Anyone else have experience with the Pilot Sport on wet pavement as they wear?

Tire testing...."Which is Best?"

Well, now we know that on a BMW, with smaller tires than any Viper, they are all darn close. BMW 328 owners should be confused.

What the test has to do with performance on a Viper does not seem relevant. The design limits are SO very much higher. The cars are vastly different. And the C-1 Viper Pilot Sport was not used. And pressure changes cannot / were not used to achieve optimum performance. Mid-performance baseline study at best.

Anyone else find any tests on other internet sites with what JonB is concerned about? C-1?

Re: Tire testing. Which is best? Here\'s the link.

So after my first drag strip outing last weekend I have come to the conclusion that 7 year old tires do nothing other than spin at over 100 mph. I was going to get the P-0 but after reading this comparison it looks like they oversteer. This seems like the last thing that I need in a viper is oversteer. Has anyone had problems with the pirellis? Should I just go with the pilot sports?

Jon, Could you please elaborate on your C-1 Viper Pilot Sport comment for us newbies? Are there different versions of Pilot Sport out there?

Thanks,

I believe that the C-1 Viper Tires have additional bead/sidewall support to improve the transient response and linearity of the tire under cornering loads.

The "C-1" only applies to 18" Pilot Sports (not mxx3) and it is marked on the sidewall. You should see it on any Viper that has the OEM 18" Pilot Sport tires.

C-1 Sports are special for Viper. Sports without a "C-1" have a different Part Number and are for other than Viper. That's why some places like tire rack may show 2 pilot sport tires that are the same size but different p/n's.

No 17" Sports have a "C-1" designation

They should have also included the BFG G-Force KD.
