Last night my wife and I returned to my Viper on a restaurant parking lot and, to my chagrin, noted it was covered with finger prints....windows, fenders, doors, top, etc.

I have a window sign produced by Year One which requests that lookers refrain from touching the car, but I seldom use it because it's clearly an advertisement and is directed towards restored vehicles. I'm sure you've all seen them.

My question: Why doesn't VCA produce some quality window signs, with logos, which politely request that admirers look, but not touch the car(s).

We all enjoy having our cars admired, that's a given, but it's distressing to see a highly waxed finish covered with finger prints.

That's why individuals wear cotton gloves when examining classic works of art. Is a Viper any different??

Maybe as an alternative, we could provide a supply of linen gloves for those who feel compelled to touch!!!!

Hey Don,

How you been. I know how you feel. I come out and see hand prints from people looking inside the Viper and also seen many times kids walking by dragging thier hands across the car with sticky fingers. If I were a parent, I would not allow my kids to do this. I know my parents would have had a cow if I did something like that when I was younger. It still doesn't discount the fact that it ****** you off when someone does that especially after you just cleaned and waxed the car. To me it's out right rude behavior. I guess I can put up with it from the small kids, but when others do it.....grrr!

Coming to the VCA meet at the end of this month?

Don:
Not trying to be wise but, why not print up whatever you want on your computer? You could even use the VCA name/emblem as I'm sure the VCA could care less.

I know I could have something printed, but I would really like to see some uniformity. A laminated, 10x10" professionally done sign couldn't be too expensive.

I know I'd kick in $$$ to have something produced which clearly has been designed for Viper's only.

I don't get why people have to touch, pick or rub a car? HEY PEOPLE IT'S PLASTIC, It feel like a painted piece of plastic. People that touch cars need a good slap. I dunno maybe I was overeducated when it came to respecting/being around cars.

If the club or whatever wants to do this, I'd submit a design for the hell of it.

If you indeed would have responded to a window sign as you indicated, there is justification for child beating!!!!!

I am going to have to side with those who have said not to use any kind of "sign" on the car. I personally believe it's more of an invitation for trouble than anything else. Those who would touch will do so anyway, and if friends are around, the sign becomes a "challenge" to them. Now they HAVE to touch it since you told them not to. Strange, isn't it? But that's reality.
Imagine a sign that said, "Don't spit on this car". I guarantee you, in time, some idiot would do it provided nobody was around to see it. The signs seem to work at car shows but there you have a totally different group of people. My rule is the Viper never goes to the mall or restaurant parking lot. pete the ex glass guy & hot rodder

I agree with soem of the other posters here: putting a sign on yuor Viper that says "Please do no touch" is just asking for trouble from some A Hole out there.

How about THIS one: A local KC memeber loaned his white/blue GT2 to a local indoor go-kart track. They put it on display in the main area, but off to the side with ropes around it. "Hands off" signs and everything. I was chatting with the folks there and asked what happened to the Viper (gone).

"Well, it seemed to be a magnet for trouble. We had several kids reaching over or under the ropes and touching it, as well as many adults. Some would do so with food still on their fingers (I think it was pizza). The final straw came when we looked over and a small child was BANGING AN AIR HOCKEY PADDLE ON THE HOOD OF THE CAR. We called him up and told him to get his car out of there as soon as possible."

Bottom line: Love the idea of a uniform sign with nice graphics, but even ropes won't deter somebody that just doesn't give a hoot.

Don,

If you can hold out a couple of months, I'll have something that can help you out

. I can't say more right now, but fingerprints, anonymous keying, hit-and-run, spitting on or throwing food on your car, dents and dings, and other such fears of Viper owners will be eliminated. Hang in there!

My father would have spanked me so hard that I would still be feeling it today. You know what they say ... "Spare the rod and spoil the Viper"
