Its spring here in Texas time for Viper service. I know what to put in the diff. But, the tranny has me wondering. Have any of you used the Redline or Amsoil products over the Syn-Torq in a 00. I have reads where some people have had very good luck with the other brands. Would like some feedback from you guys.

Be careful! Redline or other synthetics can swell the fiber synco pads in the T56. Just had mine rebuilt and was advised to stick with Mopar fluid.

I still have the factory fluids in there at 16,500 miles.

I'll be putting Amsoil in both the tranny and differential in about 2 months. 250" of snow so far means the car will probably be in hibernation till then. I have had very good luck with Amsoil products for many years.

Just as an "FYI", our Viper Tech has us stick with the type tranny fluid noted on the fill area...he does suggest using Mopar ATF+4 in the 95, 96 (both Gen I's), and 97 (Gen II). For the 99 and 01, his recommendation is to use Syntorq as noted on tranny AND in owner's manual. (I would point out that the 01 Service Manual STILL says to use ATF III...seems to me that this is an ERROR).

From what I have read The Casto seems to be the only safe way to go. Does anyone seem to differ with that??

I'm not sure 'safe' is the right choice of words. The manual states what the vehicle comes filled with and then gives an approved equivalent. The manual says you should use synthetic oil in the engine, yet there are knowledgable people on this board who use petroleum based diesel oil in their car with good results. I would imagine most Viper techs who work in a Chrysler facility are going to recommend the factory fill. IMO, this has a lot to do with marketing. Mobil 1 is certainly no better a product than other high quality synthetic oils on the market.

John Dinato, Team Viper trans guy did my rebuild. He sees plenty of trans. He is the one who advised against Red Line. He's seen the swelling.
