Russ - echo what's already been said here - "R" hooks are necessary so that your tie doens do not stress and rip the holes already in the frame.

Also, with regard to tie down locations in the TRAILER - we have found that the car is so low that it can really mess up the fascia. In our trailer we have a total of 6 swivel D rings to tie downthe car. The rear uses 2 - pretty straightforward. the front uses 2 D rings per side. We place the outboard attachment points WAY forward of the car - this is where the ratcheting handle goes. Then, the tie down goes THROUGH a second D ring that ends up almost directly below the R hook location. With this configuration, when you ratchet the car down, the nose snugs DOWN, compresses the suspension, and the tie down does not ride up and try to pull up on the fascia. Have measurements for locations if you'd like. Cars have ridden thousands of miles without incident - even after we had one strap BREAK, and through the FINE SMOOTH roads of Arkansas...

Guys I just picked up my new trailer and drove the viper inside of it to strap it down. And guess what, there are no really accessible spots to attach tie downs to.

I know there are many of you that transport their snakes, what do you strap them down by.

Tony,

Exactly usualy I use straps that go over the control arm or frame. But on the viper its fairly difficult to find a good spot, especialy one that will not get body panels in the way.

Thanks.

PS. If you have those pics that would be very usefull

Actually, they are called "R" hooks...cost about $6.00 apiece(see SNAPPIN' TURTLE catalog which you can get by calling the number listed in Tony's post)...I use a total of 4, rotating each one into the oval slots designed into the frane at all 4 corners. I personally recommend having 4 "R" hooks in each Viper..coupled with a 6,000 lb. tow rope. One can use the hooks and rope to secure the Viper to the winch hook on the flatbed, thereby AVOIDING some of the damage that's been reported to the bodywork.

A few local acquaintances said that the best way was to use straps covered with towels through the rims. That way no body work gets in the way, and its very easy to attach and disconnect.

Has anyone else tried this?

Thanks
