TSB Number for Yellowing Side Sills on \'98

Viperholics,

I'm trying to get my yellowing side sills repainted under the Bumper-to-Bumper warrantee. The Dodge service manager ask for a TSB number. Does anyone have this information????? Please Help!

Thanks

P.S. - I now have Sean Roe's high flow cats, so I don't think it will be a problem in the future, due to decreased temps...

As far that I know, there is no TSB for this problem.

My guess is because even if Dodge is well aware of this problem, they are being cheap about it.

I just had both sills REPLACED, not repainted, by my Jeep dealer on my 2000 GTS and the new sills (at a MSRP of $3500 each)carry a new part # with the inside painted black.(May be with VHT 1500 temperature paint?).

Don't accept a repaint,ask for new one.
E-mail me if you need more infos.

Ron,

That is without the paint work!!!!!!!

BTW, part # is 04 76 36 40 AE
04 76 36 41 AE

and those sills were manufactured in 9/17/01 and 8/28/01

You also need to add the 2 little clear plastic protection pieces in front of the sill, just behind the wheel.

Part # 04 70 84 29
04 70 84 28

Onerareviper,
Luc is correct, there is no TSB for this. I took my white
96 into the dealer with 11K miles and he immediately said that he would contact the zone rep and get it approved. It took about 3 weeks to get done, but it looks a ton better now.

The zone rep didn't give me any flack at all, so, I took that to believe that they know about this issue. Also, it never hurts to mention VCA affiliation and that people on the Viper board talk about this frequently.

Good luck,

Dave

ELM55,

Not in Monterey,the one in Salinas,off 101.
I have known them for over 10 years and they always give me great price on parts (Ford,Jeep,Dodge,Lincoln,Suzuki)
They are really doing the Viper as a favor but if you want I can ask them.
Luc.

Re: TSB Number for Yellowing Side Sills on \'98

There is a TSB that makes a reference to yellowing sills. It does not include a '98. It's the same TSB for rocker panel corrosion on the gen 1 cars. Thew yellowing in that tsb only applies to the '96 cars that were visible on mostly the white cars. If the dealer has any idea about Vipers, they would know there is an issue. I've lost track of how many we've painted!

Re: TSB Number for Yellowing Side Sills on \'98

Joseph,

There is something that I don't understand with Dodge.
The yellowing sills is a well known problem going back for at least few years.

Why don't have they issue a TSB? Are they just cheap and hope that it will cost them less $ witout a TSB?

And more important, Why can't they fix this f%$^g problem?

I love my Viper but I am getting tired of Dodge poor quality and lack of customer service.

Do they need some help in solving what seems to me a pretty simple issue?
If so,do you know the Person(s) we need to contact to give them some ideas?
Also,Dodge being aware for a long time of this problem, should at LEAST sell those sills at a a NORMAL price and not with an INSANE mark-up.
Retail is # $3500 per side
Dealer cost is $2500
And Warranty cost is $3000.
+ of course the cost of painting them.

I hope that someone at DC is reading this board and can appreciate the fact that we,Viper' owners are starting to be p%#(d off with this issue.

I disagree with your statement than Team Viper (PVO) is taking care of this problem.
Taking care of this problem would mean to SOLVE it before it happen.
What they are doing is dealing in a poor non profesional way with the end result of the problem (yellowing paint) instead of solving the problem itsef which is a combination of too much heat, not enough insulation and poor ventilation/cooling.
I mean,if your car is leaking oil or water, how do you fix the problem, buy adding oil or water or finding the cause of the leak?

Luc.00GTS black/silver/YELLOW and tired of it!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TSB Number for Yellowing Side Sills on \'98

Unfortunately, I am not aware of Dodge's reasoning behind when and if they create a TSB... but, I did just return from a meeting with our friends at Dodge and this issue was addressed. The answer was quite clear. If you have the problem, see your Dodge dealer and they will resolve it.

I can't answer the pricing question, but I would believe that a price of a part when it enters the Dodge parts book is formulated from a standard expense + markup calculation, and wouldn't be altered because of a specific issue... that issue would be handled "outside" of the replacement part price entity.

Please keep me posted as to whether this goes smoothly.
