Well.... today I took my 1996 RT/10 into a new dealer to check a hesitation/lean out condition I have had for a few weeks.

Seems he has determined that I have the dreaded head gasket issue? I do have the Added Care Plus extended warranty... so it seems I am getting a complete Arrow rebuild?

That's a mixed blessing since my Viper will be out of commission for at least five weeks!!!!

Anyone have any experience with this situation? What should I watch for? Words of wisdom? Any suggestions on anything I should do like a new flywheel or clutch whilst it is disassembled?

Thanks,
Lance

Better..... yeah from reading the archives... I'd agree... Worth more... maybe to someone who really prefers the Gen I.
When I bought it I was looking for a Gen I and would have preferred it already having an Arrow rebuild.... but this one had the extended warranty....

We'll see.

Are they still giving arrow rebuilds for head gaskets?

The problem you took it in for doesn't sound, to me at least, like a typical head gasket related problem. Of course I could be wrong about that.

And for a new engine on DC's tab... I wouldn't be raising many flags about what it might or might not be. ;) Besides, 5 weeks burns by pretty quickly. I once went about 3 months without my car - and that was for simple work, the parts were just on national backorder.

Enjoy the new engine :D

They wouldn't do an Arrow return for my head gasket problems.... they just replaced head gaskets (didn't even change the thermostat gasket while the had it apart! Luckily I had already done that). Get your car in asap if they said they're going to rebuild it. Everything I have heard indicates a stronger running car when you get it back.

If they said they would send it to Arrow for a rebuild, JUMP ON IT NOW!!!!! Don't wait for them to change their minds, it is a GREAT opportunity for you. They will not only fix the head gasket they will go into your whole motor and replace anything that is even remotely bad. When they did my cylinder liner recall on my '00 (with 10K miles) they also REPLACED, camshaft, crankshaft, lifters, timing chain, 3 valves, oil pump and many more things I forgot. OK so he are some thing to do:

-5 weeks is optimistic mine took 9 1/2 weeks
-They will remove your motor and crate it to ship to Arrow, when it returns make sure it's not scuffed anywhere, especially the valve covers, I made the dealer replace mine due to chips.
-Have them tow your car to your house while the motor is being done, you don't want you car sitting at a dealer for months.
-When it's done request a report of work done, they do not like to give this out but if you insist on it you will recieve one (I did) this tells you all the work that was done.

XS,
Did they tell you why they would not do the rebuild? What was your mileage at that time? Did you have the extended warranty or original warranty?
The dealership said I would get the rebuild.... I am waiting to hear back from them as to when to bring it in for the work to begin.
Thanks,
Lance

Re: UH OH? (Tomorrow is the big day)

Well, tomorrow I am taking the Viper into the dealership to begin the Arrow Rebuild! Viper Tech is telling me 4 to 6 weeks?

At any rate, the journey begins tomorrow!

Wish me luck.
