Spoke to a head tech today at a UK dealer who's 'performed' 6+ Viper 998 recalls. Asked if they cover replacing the U-brackets on the splicer joints after removing the diff? They informed me it's not a requirement to remove the diff, just a visual inspection only! I stated I was referring to the 998 not the 999 recall, he told me no, I had it wrong, it's a visual inspection only, no rear frame mods unless cracked...when did I want to book mine in...
I think I won't!!!!

I agree with you, Nadine !! We have been purchasing new bolts/straps and carrying them in the Vipers at the time of recall for the Tech to use...so have MANY others in our Region...THANKS for the help, JonB, and the GREAT SERVICE !!!

Always, always replace the U-Joint Straps and Bolts if they've been removed. One of my clients recently had his differential replaced under warranty and they did not replace any of these components. Unfortunately they are not cheap, but they are cheap insurance!

The 998 recall does not require the removal of the diff unless supports/mountings are cracked. The additional support that is installed on the driver's side is facilitated by disconnecting the halfshaft only. I agree that if there are cracks and the diff is removed the straps and bolts should be replaced with new ones.
