First of all let me thank everyone who helped me along the way. My wife and children for letting me go. My dad who flew in from Dallas to help me drive and be a gopher for what ever needed to be taken care of. How many fathers do you know that would drive with you for 60hours and 3500 miles in five days? My good neighbor Darreld and my brother Trevor who came to help out any way they could and took some excellent video.
When we got to Texas on friday(24 hours of straight driving) we went to a friends house named Bill Thompson. What a great and generous guy! He took time out of his day and looked at my car and helped me set it up for drag racing. His son Mike took the transmission out friday and put a new slave cylinder in it and put it back together in a matter of a couple of hours. I then had to tune the car for the elevation change and at 9:00pm we were headed to san antonio. We arrived at 1:00am at the hotel and got to sleep at 2:00am. The alarm clock comes on at 7:00am. We get up and headed to the dyno. There we meet several viper guys and hooked up with 1tony1. Tony is one fine individual and a great driver as well. We left the dyno at 12:30pm and then we are off to the drag strip for the street tire shootout.
The street tire shootout had about 12-13 cars racing. I thought we would be able to have plenty of time to tune on the drag strip but I was winning races so we had to keep the street tires on. We also found a way of maximizing the power of my car at the drag strip but we needed parts. We couldn't get any parts until sunday. Oh well. We stayed there until about 9:00pm.
We got up and went to the strip on sunday at 10:30am. We put the slicks and skinnies on and I went out to the staging lanes and proceeded to make my first pass on them. It was a wild ride and I didn't particularly want to learn how to run on slicks during the event so I asked Tony if he would drive. We put all the parts on the car until about 12:00pm and Tony made his first run. The maximizing worked but it wasn't fine tuned so one time it would run great and the next time it would run okay. We then ran about 4 times and they ranged from 10.11 to 10.4x. I want everyone to understand that tony had never driven my car before until he took it down the strip for the first time. He is incredible to be able to help me put all the parts that needed to be installed then hop into the car and drive it.
At the end of the event I was furtunate enough to win a few trophies. Street tire shootout winner w/10.89 @143.x, Fastest Street MPH 143.x, Fastest ET on street tires 10.89, Most powerful Roe SC'er 715RWHP, Fastest Roe SC'er 10.11, and 3rd Place in 9.96-10.49 class. THe only reason I got the last trophy was because there was only three participants in our class. I also won $500 with a pair of pilots. I was also wondering about the other contingency prizes from unitrax, elite motorsports, and others. Does anybody know anything about these?
It was great to meet everyone and put some names to faces. I really enjoyed the events and hope to be able to attend more.
Our way home was pretty uneventful except for the snowy passes in utah and 24hours of straight driving that were a little hairy.
One last thing. JonB at the parts rack is the man!!!!!!!! I was driving in colorado through the mountains trying to get a slave cylinder ordered because the dealer ordered the wrong part and Jonb came through in a very big way. We would not have had a successful trip without that slave cylinder. It was truely a partsrack event for me!
As for my car: My car has a nine second pass in it. It is just fine tuning my new methanol/water injection system(intercooler if you will). The MPH is there(145) and the MPH would have probably been around 147MPH with it fine tuned but that is all alot of big if's. However, I will do what it takes to get there. We now have the ability to turn up the boost so we have quit a bit of power still available if we need it. I don't see any reason why we can't run 150+ MPH in the 1/4 mile and run deep into the nines but only time will tell.
I am sorry if I missed anyone.
Thanks to Dr Roof for a great event!!
