I am predicting right here and now that VA will become the number one state for purposefully eluding the police for what is arguably a minor traffic infraction; driving 5-10 mph over the prevailing traffic speed. This will result in MORE serious accidents with MORE innocent bystanders being injured or killed.:(

Don't forget to add into the mix of all this nonsense...Virginia is the only state to outlaw radar detectors. So, you are not allowed to have a "legal" radio wave detection device and if you slip up and actually go with the flow of traffic, you get hit with a $1000 fine. Lets see, the fine for the radar detector is $50...the fine for speeding is $1000 plus...I'd keep the Valentine one right up on the window.

I was out in my Viper and on my bike today and was nervous anything near the posted limit. I did see state police set up usually where I see county. It will be ironic when you see some of the same people getting caught that pushed for the new laws. I have seen it before when a lawmaker pushed hard for tough DUI laws and then was one of the first that got busted.

I have and always will hate Virginia traffic enforcement laws. This is just another TAX. If this would actually decrease traffic accidents I'd be all for it. What WOULD decrease accidents and road rage would be getting the illegals, cell phone drivers and 80+ year olds that drive 40 in a 55 or 65 in the left lane off the streets. That and the fact that all this money will NOT go to the areas that need highway infrastructure income the most..Northern Virgina where 1 lane, stop light infested roads serve as the major commuting routes. I'm all for the DUI fines and all that jazz, but the increased prices for speeding tickets is rediculous. Sure, someone doing 40+ over is a major risk, but someone doing 20 over in a 55, come on! Reckless tickets should be staggered.

Reckless should be:

20MPH over in 25-35 Zone
25MPH over in a 45
30MPH over in a 55
35MPH over in a 65

Doing 75 in a 55 should not be reckless driving.

I would be willing to wager that this becomes a defense and one that if presented properly could lead to some large lawsuits or even a class action.

Vaginia is on the rag.

May their state revenue be cut in half, by the exodus of reasonably minded people and businesses, and a sharp drop-off in tourism.

That is, until the bureaucrats resist the road-nanny-insurance-industry lobbyists, and repeal their oppressive traffic laws.

"We the People" must unite again! Power to the people!

Fortunately, in most other aspects (2nd Amendment as an example), the Commonwealth is a great place to live. I agree though, these Civil Fee's are just a way of the .gov taxing the people without calling it 'tax' (which implies less accountability, etc.)

I agree with that statement. kids that are caught racing will run like rabbits to keep from paying that huge fine.:omg:

The fact that it only applies to residents and not out of state people seems subject to constitutional challenge, as there should not be disparate treatment between those two categories.

I am a VA Viper driver. This isn't going to stand long trust me. One, how can they levy stiffer fines on VA state residents all the while excluding non-residents under the auspice it is a civil fine for Virginian's only. I hate the ACLU but am ready to call them. Local politicians are already back wheeling on this, saying their staffers didn't brief them fully. I think they realize if it dosen't change they will be out in the next election if they voted yes on this piece of dung........

I always found this intereting. In Norway fines are based on your income. So, if you get caught speeding they look at your income and fine you accordingly. So, someone making minimum wage might pay $100 while you pay $1000 for the same offense. Interesting huh? I wonder how they actually get away with that one?

It's all about transferrring your wealth to your aging mother. Then on paper, you are on poverty level... and they pay YOU for speeding. :rolaugh:

Stupid socialist countries.
