Yeah, these pictures were posted somewhere before. If I remember correctly, while taking the entrance ramp to the interstate, they lost control and struck the curb which led to the overturn. Both driver and passenger were alright (looked worse than they were). A paramedic took the pictures and posted them with the driver's permission.

This tune has been played before. In fact the driver himself came to the forum and explained the whole thing. This was an unfortunate accident but by no means the catalyst for yet another "punk driver" thread.

Training and experience wouldn't have helped in the specific case....

SteelGTS,

A very good reason to have a seatbelt system that holds you in the car

Almost as bleak looking a a donorcycle(motorcycle)accident.Glad that it was only a car parts donor accident and not a human parts donor accident. Bruce

This is why I turn up the music and just cruise in my Viper, if you speed around all the time eventually this WILL happen to you, no matter how much you think it won't.

I think its a great post, just a nasty little reminder of what COULD happen.

I always wondered if I would loose my legs if someone pulled out in front of me and I hit them head on at a good speed. I will think twice before zinging in and out of highway traffic after seeing the pictures.

Most of the people that own vipers don't just Cranberry around in the car like you do to get attention. Most of us are speed and adrenaline junkies and use the car for what it was made for.

Well then, all those professonals that crash in NASCAR, CART,
IRL, and any other racing circuit must be a bunch of amatures who
don't know what their cars can do.

Accidents happen to the best drivers.

"he obviously doesn't know how to drive a Viper safely"

Could have been a person running across, maybe a deer, maybe a pothole, maybe another car, or MAYBE it was his fault.

Fortunantly, given your past posts, ignorance is something
that can be expected out of you.

Just keep sticking your nose up until you get rear ended
while posing. Then everyone can say it's your fault for driving
like an idiot.

The thing is calling it a "Accident" removes all responsibility from the driver, are you saying what happened could not have been avoided? Cars do not all of a sudden just flip over. I have entered free-ways thousands of times in my life in performance cars and never came close to flipping my car over, because I enter like a NORMAL driver. I am not saying he is a "punk-driver" just that he obviously doesn't know how to drive a Viper safely, which is evident by the result of his freeway entrance attempt that ended in destruction. And do you really believe someone's story about what "really" happened? If you poll prisoners on jail 90% of them will insist they are innocent.

From what the driver told us and what people in the area confirmed about that specific entrance, that is exactly what I'm saying.

He also entered "like a normal driver" but clipped the curb on exit. This wasn't a case of a 150mph merge or total uncontrolled burnout, he entered the corner, the curb popped the rear loose and there wasn't enough time or room to compensate for the spin. The car took out a light pole which then acted like a ramp to flip it over. There was no spectacular roll, just a simple flip.

Of course, until I (or someone of reputation) can prove other wise.

This was a very unfortunate accident, but for some odd reason it keeps becoming a mascot for deplorable driving/driving skills. I'm all for a friendly reminder on what can happen if unprepared, but don't let this event become your focal point because you'd be way off base. This was a reasonably skilled driver acting responsibly on a dry, well known stretch of road. Unless you can prove otherwise take the prejudice elsewhere.

This is a really old rehash of a posting of old pics. No insult intended there, always lessons to be learned from Viper accidents, and that is my point here. Here is the point of this accident....A Viper does not forgive mistakes, too much throttle of any kind of a curve and the rear end IS going to get loose. they obviously DID roll and they were very lucky as they look to be big guys and we have a tendency to stick out of the top of an rt10. Heres my big point, and please no one take offense, the curb did not cause the accident. I have a pilots license, let me make a comparison. If the FAA investigated this accident they would say...Pilot Error, think about it...did the curb jump out in front of the guy? It was his responsibility NOT to hit the curb and get out of control. There are hundreds of guys on this site who race Viperdays or God forbid street race AND THEY DO NOT HIT CURBS , HIT THE CURB AND FLIP THE CAR. Whose fault is it when the car hits the curb? PILOT ERROR!

Does this "possibility" make anyone think seriously about installing roll bars? I know the sport cap is specifically called out as NOT being a roll bar...Per the sticker on the car.
