Is Viper Days appropriate for a novice? YES.

Are there instructors? YES, some are even pretty good. Maybe you'll get Tammy

How much track time would a beginner get. As much as the intermediate / advanced get. Enough to wear you out. Good classroom time, too

and what can you expect to get out of it when its done? -- Faster lap times and a lot of fun

My car is quite a bit faster than a stock Viper and it can be truly scary. Don't be discouraged if Stock class winner has better lap times than you do.

Dan, forget all of the other driving schools, they don't rank anywhere close to Viper Days. Viper Days has all you need for a lot less cost. They will put you in the novice group and you will have your very own instructor. Change instructors if you want and eventually you'll be able to go it alone if you choose to. There will be 50 to 100 Vipers to draw information and assistance from. You drive your own car as fast as you can. No limits, but don't worry, if you're uncomfortable then you will stay in the rookie group and instructors are always available.

I will not waste my time with any other schools unless they are required for some license.

Viper Days is a VIPER DAZE, as where else besides a Viper Owner's Invititational can you hang with 60-90 other Snake owners who will help you with car set-up, advice, and active socializing. The Instructors often own Vipers and can give you real life examples of what you need to improve. The largest group at virtually every event or newcomers ( or novices if you prefer ).
Sign up and go, you won't regret it.

I did the Watkins Glen.....had a great time and learned alot. I'm doing it again, just don't know when. I've done PDA at Pocono. I don't know if it was PDA or Pocono, but it was not anywhere as good as Viper Days at the Glen.

A very important plus to Viper Days (and rarely mentioned) is that most, if not all the other cars on track with you have the same basic mechanical strengths and weaknesses.

Few things are more infuriating than trying to do some hot laps and work on your 'game' when you have ridiculous passing rules imposed and have to mix it up with Lotus 7s, Spec Racers, Porsches, Miatas, etc. Their lines are usually wrong, the braking points are all different, and everyone likes to play this stupid game of "keep the Viper in the rearview mirror for as long as possible." Boy isn't that fun? - NOT!

Edit:
Well, I have to make one exception to my comments above - see picture at upper-left. That was THE most fun I have ever had at a mixed-brand track event! The driver of the F-355 was a Ferrari Challenge racer and we had a ball out on the track. The Viper was KING! The crowd loved it.

GTS Dean brings up a good point. Added to that is the fact that Skip Thomas limits the number of cars in each run group to a much smaller number than most other driving schools/track days.

Most driving schools do not record and publish your lap times because they don't want drivers to push too hard. With proper instruction however, it is a very important part of the learning/feedback process. ViperDays does a great job of getting this information posted at the track very quickly after your session and then publishes the information on their website usually within a week of the event.

The format for all student groups is two 30 minute sessions in the morning and two in the afternoon, giving you four hours of track time at a two day event. That is much more time than most other schools offer. When you combine that with the classroom instruction, banquets and bench racing it makes for a very exhausting weekend - but one that leaves a smile on your face for several days.

See you at the track!

If your goal is to learn how to handle your Viper, then there is no better place to go than Viper Days. The Skip Barber school is better for everyday driving, but does not solely focus on Viper. Plus you get to meet others that are there for the same reason. And finally, you can go to 3-4 weekends of Viper Days events for the cost of one full weekend at Barber. O yea, Viper Days ALSO has discounts for VCA members. I think it's $100 per event.
