March 4, 1998 -- Columbus auto dealer indicted on fraud-related felony charges
Columbus -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a Columbus automobile dealer has been indicted by a Franklin Grand Jury on felony charges in connection with false or incomplete vehicle titles and odometer statements. Abe Amira, age 33, of 4500 Dublin Road in Columbus, and the corporation of Abe’s Sales and Leasing, Inc., were indicted on third and fourth-degree felony counts of: accepting an incomplete title; possessing, with intent to defraud, an unlawfully obtained certificate of title; and transferring a present title lacking a true and complete odometer statement.
Troopers initiated an investigation in 1996 after Amira sold a vehicle without a vehicle identification plate. The Patrol investigation also revealed he obtained an original Ohio title for a vehicle which had actually been wrecked. A search warrant was subsequently served on Amira’s residence, and businesses he owned including Abe’s Sales and Leasing and the Excalibur Club in Columbus. Investigators seized several vehicles including a 1994 Dodge Viper.
Amira is scheduled to appear in the Franklin County Municipal Court today to answer the charges. The Patrol said their investigation is continuing.
