I officially took delivery of my Black 2000 GTS Viper on Saturday, and o am i nervous, but i know i have to wait for the snow to melt and for the streets to dry to get behind the wheel and take it for that first cruise, yes i am a Viper ****** So this is going to be my first time driving a Viper. But like most Viper virgins i have to wait for the right moment to truly make it feel ooooo so good  Maybe some of you can help me out and tell me what to expect or how to act on my first Viper experience. How should i handle it? I hope i don't let the clutch out to fast, hit the gas and all of a sudden the moment is over.
In the mean time i have been inspecting it a little more closely and notice i need new shocks for the rear hatch and was wondering if there is a cross reference # for this item or are they a dealer part only? I have not notice if there was a section for cross referencing parts, is there anything like that here?
Also i will post pixs as soon as i figure out how to upload pixs to a message.
I am sure i will have more questions as time goes by but for now that is the only question i have.
Thanks for the help.

Hey Phil, welcome to the Viper family!

Rule 1: Wheels pointed straight when jumping on the gas....your tail-lights make lousy headlights....keep in the back.

Rule 2: Cold tires and cold roads (even if they're dry) are dangerous in a Viper. If the roads are cold, keep your playing mellow, and give the tires plenty of time to get up to temperature.

Rule 3: If your car has the original tires on it, you need new ones. After 6+ years, they're dried out and won't grip like they should.

Rule 4: Don't pick your nose while driving, everyone is looking at you.

Rule 5: When closing the hood, put your hands just behind and outside the naca duct. Don't push down at the front edge, you can crack the hood.

Rule 6: A battery tender is a good investment, especially if your car is going to be sitting for weeks and not being started or driven.

Rule 7: Your car has ABS, but it's also deceptively fast (80 feels like 50 in this car, IMO), watching your closing speeds on other cars and remember to always be looking ahead.

Rule 8: Formulate your answers now to the common questions..."Is it fast", "how much did it cost", etc. You'll get these a LOT!

Rule 9: It's hard to judge the front end from inside the car. You'll park 6 feet away from things you thought were 2 feet away. You'll get over it.

Rule 10: Enjoy your new beast, post pics, join the VCA, tie in to your region and have a blast with other cool Viper owners!

Welcome Again!

Kelly

I know JonB has a fresh set of the struts because I messed up and ordered from him and Dodge. Just sent his back so would assume he has some in stock. RA

Hey Phil. It's happening. Yesterday took a huge bite out of the snow here but we need a lot more days of heat to dry off the roads. Another few weeks of weather like this and we should be good to go at least on the main drags. I think for your first ride we definitely need to hook up. You need to follow me just so you can watch the reactions of people as we pass them. It's great. I stopped at Phil's and saw his new ride. Looks great. I love the black. Funny story. I think deep down Phil doesn't like me. We were talking in his garage and his wife made a comment that she couldn't drive the Viper. I asked why not and she said she couldn't get the clutch pedal down as it was too far away. Let's just say that Phil's wife is slightly vertically challenged..LOL.. Anyway.......without thinking.................and I stress..without thinking......I said " well....did you adjust the pedals?" Of course being a new Viper owner Phil had not discovered that the pedals were adjustable. So I proceeded to get in the car and adjust the pedals all the way forward........again...my brain was completely shut off as you are all well aware by now....... and then proceeded to help Phil's wife into the seat and move the seat all the way forward for her. I realize at this point some of you are wanting to throw whatever large solid object you can find right through the computer screen hoping to hit me square between the eyes. Yes that's right...you guessed it.... the Viper fits Phil's wife perfect and with the pedals all the way forward she can now depress the clutch all the way and she is smiling ear to ear as it has just become apparent that she will be able to drive the Viper  . ...................... It was like a bomb going off in my head as in about 1 millisecond after I see the smile on her face and the sheer joy in her heart, that I turn and look at Phil and realize what I have just done. :buttkick: I'm not quite sure if the look in Phil's eyes was horror, :evilmad: displeasure :evilmad: or a look of distress :( wondering what he was going to do with my car out front after he chopped me up into little pieces and buried me in his back yard so his 2 - 800 lb dogs could dig me up, eat me and then sh&t me out into large piles of dog crap. :curse: :curse: :curse: I'm quite sure that death would have been too easy in his mind but at that point it was probably the best solution. :bonker: :bonker: :bonker: ........ For letting me out of his house alive I will forever be grateful and will now bye Pizza from Phil every week for the rest of my life until he feels that my stupidity and complete lack of mental fortitude have been paid back. .

Can't wait for spring. I owe Phil at least a few beers for this goof up...LOL.. Hopefully he got some sleep that night because after she discovered that she could drive the Viper she suddenly had a gleam in her eye and 2 mins later she came up with some excuse to kick me out of the house and I think Phil was about to get rewarded for her thoughts of pleasure in the front drivers seat of the Viper. I didnt walk to my car....I ran...fearing an intense pain in the back of my head. I didnt see Phil's gun collection but I'm sure he was looking for one as I walked out the door.

LOL.. All is good. Phil. Can't wait for that first ride.

P.S. If you're ever through Regina. Stop in at Phil's restaurant. Best Pizza in town.

Rizzo I like that, it's pretty funny. :D Actually by helping us discover the pedal adjustments, you have made me even happier ;) . Now Tanya is very excited about driving the Viper and no longer talks about how maybe we should have gotten the Prowler instead, so she could at least drive it once in awhile
Definitly when the streets clear a little more we will go for that ride together, but first i have to take it a get it inspected so i can have it registered, maybe next week.
Thanks for the compliments on the pizza  i am glad you enjoyed it.
Plus thanks to everyone for the "welcomes" and info.

By the way Rizzo, the dogs were waiting to eat :D

2000 was the last year they didn't come with ABS.

Hey Phil,

Fellow canadian here and also new owner. My 97 B/W GTS gets delivered in April. I was also a little nervous about driving the car and posted for help. Got some great advice.

We just got 1ft of new snow last week in Montreal so we have wait for the melting to begin.

Hopefully my wife will never meet Sean! I'm still good with..."Sorry honey....the car just doesn't fit you..."

Congratulations on the car and post pictures soon!

Hey John, are you gonna bring your blue & white to the Rosemere Dunkin' Donuts on Friday nights once the weather warms up? Maybe Andras'll show with his stickered up turbine ACR.

yes...i have pictures but like many newbies here...I haven't figured out how to post them yet. Also, they are 3 - 4MB each photo and I am not sure how to get them to low res.

Hopefully I'll learn how to post once the car arrives. Interesting story goes with the car.

I gather Sean isn't married!??

You no longer have to wait for pictures.
Beatiful car BTW. Black looks awesome, especially with the snow in the background.

Well there is one less Viper ****** now in Regina  . Tonight i put a permit on the Viper to go for a spin, and all i can say is "Holy !@#$% Sh@t" :D . The handling is so tight and sensetive, o baby the torque and the purr and growl from the engine, so sweet. Ahhh i feel better now. The only thing wrong with the whole experince is the quality of the "newbe" driver, i have some work to do again with the shifting of gears

Thanks for all the advice,

Phil
