A friend of mine is currently on the market for a 97-99 GTS, and asked me to check into finding him one on this board. Started calling the classified ads and every single car I inquired about has a weird history behind it.

All are at least 2nd owners, that know nothing about the car prior to ownership. Every single one has had some sort of weird history with body damage which may or may not have been repaired.

There must be some clean vipers out there somewhere, without any abnormal history behind them.

If you have one let me know.

That's weird, most VCA members know their cars build date! (I do

Keep looking, there are PLENTY of 1 owner, or well informed 2nd owner cars out there. Don't be afraid of asking help of local members either.

In my opinion, Vipers are some of the most pampered cars you'll find. They almost all have very low miles and have been meticulously maintained. Every Viper owner I know is so anal about their car that it's almost an obsession. Don't be so picky about a little work having been done to the cars. A Viper is still a Dodge you know.

BigCarrot has an optimistic view on owners Russ, and while I'll agree about the above statement for 99.9% of the people on this board, I personally have seen to very distinct types of owners so far: Anal Enthusiast (as described above) and the Power Hungry Yuppies. There are very few examples of in between.

The PHYs will beat the snot out of any car regardless of collectibilty. Most of us have seen examples of these cars at a dealership somewhere. These are not car people, they are money people and the Viper to them is an appliance for getting attention.

The benefit is that 99% of the time you can see these cars a mile away if you look carefully. A PHY will not clean the motor, will not be concerned with the condition of their wheel wells, and will probably have the OEM floor mats. If you search around the board there are numerous threads telling you what to look for... good luck...
