I have a SRT with Paxton and Corsa track exhaust. There is a little bit too much drone, and its just a little bit too loud.

I was planning to install a pair of Vortex Cones to cut down the drone and noise. Has anyone else done this? Where did you place the cones? and any tips on the installation.

Would like to do it myself over the weekend.

I have them. They really quieted things down quite a bit. I put them just upstream from my cats. It was very simple. Just put them in the pipe, pointy side pointing upstream.

Made a big difference.

I have them too. Definitely helped! Mine are almost at the end of the pipes, but I think I'd put them where Kai has his, because it whistles a little when I'm idling. I think the air being forced through all the little holes causes it. Kinda sounds like an old VW Bug or something.

Just installed Random Tech cats and Corsa track, Can't say as I like the
sound. Very loud and regardless of what they say it does drone. Loud would
not be so much of a problem but for the truck like pitch. I either have
to exchange for the Corasa cross over or send them back or fix them.
Where can I get a vortex cone and does it affect performance?

Got mine from Parts Rack. Arrived one day after ordering. Also available from Jegs. They claim the open area of the cone is actually greater than the diameter of the pipe, so hp losses will be minimal. <=

I believe the theory is that the surface area of the cone will break up the pulse with only minor HP reduction.

The sound of the Corsa track exhaust is only slightly too droney, and loud. The drone is more of an issue than the sound volume. Hope the insertion of the cones will make just enough reduction.

Will give some feedback after I get them installed. With Paxton HP loss will not be a problem, as I am usually traction limited at peak output.

Have to think that putting anything in the pipe will not cause lower HP, but these look to be far less restrictive that the cat.

When you remove the x-over from the car, and the sec. cats, then install a more agressive muffler, the car sounds better some of the time, depending on what rpm your doing. I've said it many times, going straight out the side is not for the faint hearted. It can become annoying after a while.

The problem is this car has the exhaust system right near you on the side, and the firing order of these engines is another cause of a not so desireable sound, but stock sounds to sickly, and downright weak.

When I asked Bullet why they don't offer a 3 inch Bullet muffler with a small outer body, they told me the manufactor said it's impossible to get good sound out of a three inch muffler without making the body 6 full inches in diameter. There 2.5 inch Bullet muffler only has a body size of about 4 inches, but when you move up to 3 inch, it requires they make the body a full 6 inch in size, but as we all know you can't put a 6 inch muffler in the side of an SRT. Now doe's this possibly tell all you guys what some of the problem is with the drone and tone issues with the SRT. Bottom line is 3 inch exhaust pipe and muffler size will not sound right in a 4 or 5 inch body. I'm sure Bullet would be very happy to make a smaller bodied 3 inch muffler as they would fit under cars so much better, than a huge 6 inch diameter body. It's amazing what half an inch will do to tone after a certain point. I would use a small bodied 3 inch muffler if I had a full 3 inch system, and needed the breathing room, but I can assure you that removing the sec. cats and upgrading the primary cats to a high flow status, and then deleting the X-over on top of all that, will make the car breath all it's going to need, and you won't have as much drone issues. Why ever doe's everyone think 3 inch is the ticket.

If you want to open up the exhaust a little while keeping sound reasonable, just order the 2.5" version of the hi-flow cats from Parts Rack. You will have less weight, cooler sills, and some HP to boot. If you want big power without the noise, go Paxton + cats.

Just ordered a set of 3 disk CCi inserts from Summit Racing. The tech told me that it will decrease the db
and give a deeper exhaust note. Should have them on by Wed. Also, they say that it should not change Hp much.
