Weird noise?

I've got a weird noise that starts about 3k in each gear. It sounds like a valve or something knocking, but it only does it in gear. If I do it in neutral, it doesn't make a sound. I even got under the hood and manually moved the throttle body and everything sounded normal. I just had a Quaife with new gears put in and I didn't hear it at all at first. I followed the break-in and put almost 400 miles on it before ever getting on the throttle, and I never heard the noise. Now I have been playing a little and the noise appeared. I assume it's the gears, although it sounds like it's coming from up front, but I know how sounds can be deceptive. Anyway, if your gears are making noise, would it happen just be above a certain RPM? It does it in all gears.

If it's happening at the same engine speed irrespective of the gear your in, and doesn't happen unless you're in gear, you can pretty much limit the possible causes to the input shaft of the tranny forward. Since it only happens when you're in gear, you may have a broken tooth or bearing going out on the input shaft. There's also a possibility that it is load related and associated with the flywheel, clutch or output shaft of the engine.

When the noise happens, do you feel anything through the gearshift knob? Lots of times, if it's something in the tranny, you'll 'feel' the noise through the gearshift. Also, does it continue when you're decelerating? If you have something that's load-related, sometimes it will go away when the load reverses.

Sorry I can't be more specific in narrowing this down.

I don't "feel" anything at all, just hear it. I didn't notice if it's on decel also. I will listen next time I'm driving.
