With the 03' comin' next year and the RT/10 being traded in for it, I need a road racing Viper. Since I'll have a convertible and it is for racing a GTS makes sense. My question is as stated, with the mods needed for road racing which would be the best year. I am particularly interested in hearing about braking upgrades in ABS vs. non ABS Vipers. And is ABS better for track purposes or not?

I'm going to find a way to get one. Maybe not next year but the following year.

ABS aside, just based on **-hum hunches, wishful thinking, their history, Cost vs value.... "with the mods needed"

I would select a 1997 GTS.
Then, compare to a 1999 ACR.

Remember I'd be interested in de-commissioned items, in / out.

If you get one can I get a ride?

Sure but it depends on if I get the full cage or the one with the passenger seat. But I always give rides in my 97 GTS. Going to Sebring on Dec 8.

I'd agree with JonB. If I had to leave the car 100% stock, that would be the year for sure. The '99 has the last non-creamy motor and it has the Koni shocks which are FAR superior to the Dynamics on the newer cars.

If you're just club racing and can add suspension, the '01 (or '02) GTS with ABS is nice because you can't add ABS (easily) to an older car. ABS is always an advantage on the track, but far more of an advantage to an inexperienced driver. For an experienced driver, it only helps in rare instances. Either way, if you send the car to EMI Suspension for some triple adjustable Penskes, you'll be more than set.
