Sounds reasonable to me. In this economy sometime better deals come up. I looked intensely (3 hours a night on this forum and others) for over 3 weeks and finally got one. During the search i learned a lot. Some people overprice their cars simply hoping to do well on the sale and they a affluent enough to not be in desperate need of the money. So they don't really care if they sell it or not. I looked at a 96 GTS with 8,000 miles asking price was 54,000 I think. The car was in very good condition, but i have seen vipers in better shape with even higher miles. The owner would only budge about $1,000 less and said any lower he'd keep the car. I told him the 2 curbed wheels would cost $500 to repair and that the small crack in the windshield meant a possible replacement cost of about $750. He felt the car was worth it based on what he saw on other ads. He didn't consider that maybe none of them ever sold at those prices. Bottom line is I paid $45,000 for a nice 97 GTS, but certainly not perfect. it was in equal condition to the first car I mentioned, but had 23,000 miles on it and no paperwork. I intend to not have a garage queen but drive the hell out of it. It didn't make sense to buy a perfect car as it wouldn't be for long with all the miles I was planning to put on it.
It seems that there isn't a giant price change in years. Remember some people feel the earlier years are more desirable due to engine, color , etc. and will pay more to get it. Plus a lot of early GTS's are in such great condition, they are like new.
All in all your price is very fair to me. If you are willing to travel to other parts of the country, there will be a lot more to choose from. I flew from California to texas and drove back.
Good luck
Kevin
BTW Marv Rose has a stock 96 GTS in perfect cond for 49,000. Check classified ads in Central Cal region. So your price in the $53K range is close in my opinion
