A Corsa (cat back) exhaust really doesn't do anything for power It's just for sound. Headers are needed to significantly improve the power with the cat back. Average drivers will hit low 12's in the 1/4 there are some exceptional drivers that can hit high 11's bone stock. Even with headers and exhaust there is not much improvement in 1/4 mile times (maybe .2 or .3 sec) You should look at rwhp instead of 1/4 times. Your car and Viper's are close to the same weight (within 100 lbs) so it would come down to the driver and the rwhp of the two cars. A black GTS was only available in 2000 (I believe) so if you want to see rwhp dyno numbers click on my website below then go to "Dyno Results" at the top of the page. I list about 75 Vipers with year, mods, and rwhp.

I love the responce on the other forum post to what you have done to your car.....

Oh, you know its just an SS with some minor mods... like Nitrous, cam, heads, intake headers, exhaust, etc........
You know a basicly stock ss, lol I would hate to see this guys idea of a modified car.

LoL

With all the grief the Naz...er, Moderators get on this board, I'm glad it doesn't sound like that one. What do you think the combined IQ is over there?

Actually black was only a '99 and '00 color for the GTS (trust me on this). If it was a '99 he probably had a bit more power with exhaust mods, as it had a lumpier cam that responded better to them. The '00 doesn't do as well with exhaust mods. Regardless, they both should be about 415-440 at the rear wheels (guesstimate). Interesting story and not surprising if you are 470-490 rwhp. Have fun!

Black is definitely the best looking color. But you are right about only when its clean. Got a 00 black on black GTS, looks **** awesome when clean, but keeping it that way is tough. I need a crew of Mexican laborers. Anyway, the 19" HREs set it off too.

Wicked SS,

You my friend have a beautiful car...one that should make you just as proud as the Viper owner you raced is of his. I can't begin to tell you how many Camaros,Mustangs and Firebirds have made 45mph U-Turns just to get up beside me to see what my car will do. Believe it or not...I really appreciate the other drivers desire to push his car to the limit and put it up against one of the fastest cars on the planet. Just be careful when you take on one from a non-rolling start. It is VERY easy for a Viper driver to break loose the rear tires and swing the beast into your car...especially if he is not a skilled driver and understands the torque a Viper delivers to the rear wheels.

Take care and stay safe...

You guys quoting mid-high 11's for 2002 GTS with exhaust work are forgetting the Creampuff Coefficient (tm). The CC raises the 1/4 time of any modded Creampuff by 1/2 second next to any non-creampuff with the same mods.

Therefore, we see that a 2002 GTS with these mods is only capable of a low 12 whereas a '98 could have done a mid-high 11!

Mike, Mike, Mike:

since 1Badgts hasn't gotten to the matter first, I'll chime in since he hammered home a point I have not forgotten about the creampuff vs early GenII debate:

The fastest stock Viper time, ever, was 11.77 100% stock by Evan Smith, in 90 degree heat and high humidity, in a 2000 RT/10!

granted I agree that it seems that creampuff post 1999's dyno around 15-20 less at the tires, but as far as times go, that's the sticking record!!(check MES's site on rwhp for dozens of cars)

in general I would say a tenth or two might be attributed to the difference in motor, just my .02, your mileage may vary, always wear a helmet, view discretion is advised.

til next time,
Ryan
