Very optimistic.I paid 69 for my brand new 01 some months ago.Its now 1 year old.66 isn't too bad for a 1 yeaar old car.Subtract another 5 progresivly for each model year older. Bruce

Take a look at '92 RT10's and compare prices. Same reason. It's because it's the first year that those were offered.

Similiar to the 97(?) RT's. It was the first year that they had the GTS options and not many were made, therefore a premium.

However, it's only worth that to people who care to pay it. I want to DRIVE my car, so I'm going to get the best deal I can instead of worrying how much it will be worth next year...

I can see it now, in say 30 years or so......

Up for bid on the auction block is this 1999 Dodge viper, for many the ultimate expression of a muscle car. This perticular model is one of the last of the great generation 2 vipers which still maintains the forged pistons and a larger camshaft than the following production years. As known to most car enthusiasts starting in 2000 was the CREAMPUFF version of this legend.

Starting bid will be $500,000.00 US

Wishfull thinking ;).....

Remember those are asking prices. I'm hearing about very clean higher mileage GTS's going low 40's with one at $39k (80k miles, "as new appearance" inside and out according to the Viper tech that mentioned it). The cars are depreciating normally even in a period of economic softness and a new model is coming out next season. Look at what the actual deal prices are on two year old Vettes, Boxters etc. and you get a real wakeup call. Viper remains the bang for the buck performance champ for a factory car and even at $40k for a '96 still holds more of it's original value than any other car that springs to mind.

Another issue is color. If you want the classic blue with white stripe GTS your not going to find it new. Many are willing to pay well for an extremely clean used car just to get the color they want.
