First time changing oil in my newly acquired 05 SRT, besides dealer (by the way how much dealer will charge for the filter) is there a place online to order filter from with the low shipping cost?
Also, guys who live in San Francisco and Bay Area where do you find 0/40 oil? I only saw 5/30 and 10/30.

thanks.

I sent you over a PM regarding the filter...

Let me know if I can send that out for you! Or maybe pick up a couple so you can keep one on your shelf for your next oil change

Thank you guys! I dropped my car for the service yesterday (want them to fix the rattling noise from the dashboard) and was surprised that the filter on vipers at the dealer cost only $7.75 WOW! I thought they will rip me off by 30 bucks, but for 7.75 I can survive to go to a dealer and pick it up locally and save on shipping :).

I have cut open the parts house filters and the factory filters for the 2005's and 2008's and you don't want to use an after market filter in my opinion. The factory filter are much beter built and have the proper drain back and bypass valves.

Thanks for the info. Will pickup a few filters. Will look for them online.

Was just checking out some other topics and just like any other forum, I see the great oil debates are alive on here too.:omg:

If this filter was BLACK you were giving the OLD style and not the newer(white) better version.

I would like a clarification on the "part house" filters. I think we all know the Fram filters are junk and anybody using them is asking for problems. But typically I will use Purolator Pure One oil filters or the Mobile 1 filters which are suppose to be top of the line. If you cut these open along with the Mopar Viper filter, can you post picutres and qualify that statement as to why you think one is better than the others?

I've also been told that they are the same filters used on the Dodge Ram trucks. Anyone know anything about this?

I bought a case of filters direct from K&N for about $4 per filter. I perfer them to the Mopar filters because they have the nut on the bottom so you can remove it without too much hassle.

The white Viper car filter will not work properly on the truck! I know this for a fact, it will make a high pitch squeeling noise.

From what I know the SRT10 truck and car use the same filter until 08 then it's a new P/N and a metric thread
Correct.
Both the SRT-10 cars and SRT-10 trucks share the same part number for the filter: P/N 5037836AA
(until 2008 as stated above)

You should ebay the rest and go with the Viper-specific filter.
Saving a buck or two now may cost you thousands down the road.
Just a suggestion.

This really only relates to the 2006 SRT-10 trucks.
If you run a regular Mopar filter (blue one) on a 2006 SRT-10 truck, the squealing can happen.
The rule for the trucks: All years/models get the 5037836AA Viper-branded filter.

My local Dodge dealership sold me filters that fit the cast iron V10 motor, not just the SRT-10 Ram. Did they sell me a substandard product? What makes the Viper filter different? Higher flow?

This has been discussed umpteen times before. Use the search feature to get more detailed info. But in short it provides much more flow before entering bypass mode, thus providing filtration more of the time. It also has an improved bypass and other feature improvements.

Just stopped at the local dealer. They said that the Viper takes the same filter as everything else. After 7 mins of him looking at his computer.

He's half-right (or half-wrong).
The Viper *can* take the standard Mopar filter but it *SHOULD* use the Viper-specific filter.

Give the parts person this part number: P/N 5037836AA
If you're in Zanesville, there are dealers here in Columbus that have them in stock (Liberty Dodge is one I know of).

Oh. LOL Sorry. I read that a little too quick.

Anyway, make sure you get that part number to your dealer (P/N 5037836AA) and then double-check it when you get the box. :)
