Re: Who\'s faster Gen2 or 3?
In my stock Gen III, I've run 13.28 @ 111.75mph (at Bandimere Speedway @ 6000 feet above sea level.) I could consistently run around 13.35 and consistently trap at a bit over 111mph.
The guys I know with stock Gen II GTS coupes have low e.t's of around 13.4, and trap at 110mph.
The Gen III has a bit more power and a little less weight. However, the Gen II has better gearing and better tires, so the real world differences between the cars is minimal. So, In my experience, the GTS may be a tiny bit slower, but not enough to make much difference. On any given race, reaction time and skill will likely play a bigger role than differences between the two cars.
One place where I know the Gen II cars to be faster is in the standing mile. Here, the wacky Gen III overdrive 5th gear bogs the car immensely, just as you are in the "home stretch." My stock Gen III was toasted consistently by GTS coupes in the mile because you just don't have much "pull" when you shift into 5th.
On a road course, I believe the Gen III to be a bit faster. This is from conversations with my driving instructor, who has a fair amount of seat time in Gen II coupes and who has driven my car quite a bit. He was able to put down consistently faster lap times in my Gen III than he did driving Gen II's. Again, however, differences in driver skill is going to make a bigger difference than differences with cars on a road course.
