Why are the BFG\'s G-Force tires so much less than the Michelins?

OK all you tire gurus, is there really a big difference between the Michelin Pilots and the BFG G-Force Tires? Why are the BFG's so much less than the Pilots? They seem to have the same speed ratings, is it due to less tread depth or something. Will they wear out faster? What about performance on the track or street. Any information will be appreciated.

Yep, Michelin sure does own BFG, but I wonder why the difference in price? Do the G-Force tires wear as well as the Michelins? I know this had been discussed on this forum before, but I can't recall how long ago and if there were any truly signifigant reasons not to get the G-Force tires. No matter which ones I want to go with, none of the tire dealers in Grand Rapids even stock Viper tires. Is this pretty common everywhere? Thanks for the reply.

I don't know if I am missing something here, but Pilots are street tires and G Force are DOT race tires (like Hoosiers)

You know what a street tire is/do/last.

A DOT race tire is a race tire that is DOT approved and that has a little bit of treads.
When they have no more treads, they are exactly like slicks.
A race tire need to be hot to work and will last about 400 miles on the street.
They will follow evey groove on the road and will force you to drive with both hands on the wheel and to have a stiff drink when you reach your destination.

The G Force R1 is also a dead dinosaur. You can't buy them anymore except inventory on hand (which is dwindling quickly).
