hi all, after i posted the story about selling my 2002 rt/10 because i was worried that if i got the car to 10,000 miles the value would drop thousands of dollars in value. i think i proved myself right by selling the car for what i wanted and for more then i see others sell for.

REASONS I FEEL IT SOLD RIGHT AWAY AND AT A GREAT PRICE

1) the way i took care of it, no matter if i drove the car for 25miles or 300 miles when i returned home i would detail the car for at least 4 hours, never let it sit after driving it with dust or brake dust on wheels, clean the interior, do the windows, shine the tires, wipe down wheel wells and etc, etc, etc... i did this because my car is my hobbie and i loved my car.

2) changed the oil every 3 months or 2500 miles, kept all records

3) completly did all research on my car, previous owners numbers, still talk with previous owners.

4) always kept the car garaged with cover on

5) have binder with every bit of paper work that came with car

6) the car had smooth tubes and s&b filters, sunvisors from 95 rt/10 ( smaller and look like leather) i kept original tubes, filters, and visors for new owner so the car could always be factory original

7) car still had the original factory warranty until april of 2005 with extended 7/100k availble as long that it gets purchased before the 3/36 expired. :headbang:

8) never drag raced or track the car, i knew what i had and didnt need to prove it to anyone. dont get me wrong i know how to drive it and did my share of knowing and experiencing what the total package had to offer, i just didnt need a audience to do it.

9) watch the show car crazy - well i'm one of them and my car showed it

10) always treated the car kowing someday i would sell it and if it were we buying it. i was able to be up front and honest with the buyer in everyway and it showed

11) listed the car in autotrader - had great pictures for buyer to view before calling me, describe the car to a t, listed facts related to car, all and all to view the ad when you would call the only question would be when can i see it and when.

i am telling you all this beacuse of the things that have been said back to me from others on this site. one even called me a fool, another called me crazy, another pretty much said it was a garage queen.

I DROVE THE CAR OVER 7000 MILES IN LESS THEN A YEAR

I BUY MY CARS TO DRIVE THEM AS WELL, NOT JUST PARK IT IN MY GARAGE.

EVEN IN THE WINTER I WOULD DRIVE IT JUST SO THE FLUIDS COULD HEAT UP AND NOT FLAT SPOT THE TIRES. SO ON AND SO ON

I JUST NEVER DROVE THE CAR IN RAIN OR ANY FOUL WEATHER, AND YES I WOULD CHECK TO MAKE SURE IF I WAS TAKING THE CAR OUT THAT THE WEATHER WAS NOT GOING TO RAIN, BIG DEAL.

LASTLY IF YOU WERE THE ONE LOOKING FOR THIS CAR YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DISAPOINTED.

THE CAR LOOKED BETTER THEN SOME NEW ONES I HAVE SEEN ON A SHOWROOM FLOOR.

THATS WHY IN LESS THEN 5 DAYS I LISTED, SOLD, AND DELIVERED THE CAR TO THE NEW OWNER AT THE PRICE I WAS WILLING TO SELL IT AT. A GREAT PRICE FOR ME BUT I KNEW IT WAS WORTH IT AND SO WILL MY NEXT ONE.

THANKS AGAIN FOR LISTENING, SEE YOU ALL SOON IN MY NEW VIPER :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

With all do respect, why is it necessary to explain why you sold your car? 1000's of cars are sold each day and I'm sure the sellers aren't posting their stories why they sold their car. It's a car, albeit a Viper, but it's still a car. Nothing more nothing less. Unless the members of this board, who you appear to be explaining yourself to, are making your car payments for you, WHO CARES! It was your car. You got a great price and I'm sure the buyer got a great car. End of story. People on this board buy and sell cars everyday so why should you have to explain why you sold your car? Is there not anymore pertinent Viper information to be had today (Like Tommy Archer winning the Speed World Challenge race in the Comp Coupe!)that we are presented with a post about the sale of a car? Let's move on please. :)

Gotta put in a plug for Autotrader. I bought my Viper on their site and sold two cars there in the past 6 months!

It really works to get your listing out to a wider region.

Because there were many posters that seemed to have a problem understanding (myself included) why he would sell a great Viper, lament about it, and then immediately announce that he was looking to by another one to replace it. I still don't understand, even with his post here. I mean he has not said that the goal was to cash out money by selling a high-value car and buying a lower value car with a bunch of miles, and according to this post, it was one of the greatest Vipers out there (I agree with the care and warranty as explained) so if a Viper is what you want, why not keep it. Given that there might be some sort of transation costs involved (sales/use tax when he buys another car), I still do not understand why he sold it, but this question in my and others' minds is why he posted. I do not see this as a bandwidth hogging egomaniac at work.

It makes no sense.... if you took care of it like that then the only way you're going to get another is to buy new. And then you're just blowing money away.

The last half of that post sounds like an ebay ad. Get real! You don't have to justify your actions to anyone. I think its ok if you want to be that meticulous in caring for you car. Myself on the other hand hate cleaning my car but I still do it. Personally I would much rather spend those 4 hours driving the thing instead of cleaning it. What's this "never driven in rain" that people always pride themselves on. The thing is not going to melt. BTW don't you have to get the car wet in order to wash it?

Some guy are just over the top when it comes to cleaning their cars. Everything must be perfect.

I suspect the unloading of this car had more to do with that "must be perfect" idea.

In order to be perfect, the car couldn't have too many miles. Folks had to look at the odometer and say, "wow, low miles".
A car with more than 4 digits showing isn't quite as special.

That's the only reason for selling that makes sense. Selling to buy another used one wouldn't save money, not with taxes and fees.
Wanting a new car might be a logical reason.

Anyway, he did what he did and that was what he wanted.

wow, come on guys just showing that are cars are worth more then what some sell for which is one point i was trying to show. REDSLED - YOUR WRONG ON A COUPLE OF POINTS BY DOING THE ASSUME THING- NO CAR PAYMENTS PAID CASH, SO NO INTEREST PAYMENTS - HENCE SO CAR ONLY COST ME WHAT I PAID PLUS TAXES AND MY BUYER PAID CASH AS WELL, SO NOT MAKING MY PAYMENTS WHICH I NEVER HAD NOR IS HE MAKING PAYMENTS. HAD CLEAR TITLE IN HAND - NO LIENS - NO LOANS, WHICH HELPS WHEN SELLING SO A BUYER DOESNT THINK YOU HAVE TO SELL BECAUSE OF PAYMENTS. when i listed the car i really didnt expect to sell for the price i had listed, i was interested to see what my car was really worth. if someone was willing to pay what i asked i was willing to sell, it just surprized me how fast it happen. i have been interested in the new srt/10's since they came out because silver is my favorite color for a sports car. now me willing to buy the same car i just sold, yes if it had very very very low miles- again reason for willing to buy same car. i was able to buy my car drive it for a year, over 7000 miles at that and cover over 100 percent what i paid plus the taxes and insurance so no i am not losing or wasting any money. i was able to buy the car right from someone willing to sell justy to get out of the car. thought this would be a neat story to tell, i mean this is a form for all subjects, right? if i race the next one i buy i will make sure to post it for ya REDSLED, SEEMS YOU ENJOY RACE STORIES MORE, which is fine with me. as for getting a life and seeing a whole world out there, that i do everyday.

looking for a silver srt/10 2004 or 2002 rt/10 with miles less then 2500

You don't need to explain anything to anybody as to why you did what you did. Some of us were just a little confused as to why you would sell this well maintained car that you obviously loved just to go out and buy the exact car again. To each his own but either way, no explanation is needed. Also, you did not give any reasons in the original post so people jumped to conclusions. This can be a tough place to post things. Everybody is a critic, sometimes me included, but in the end it is your car and you can do what you want to with. Goog luck to you. :D
P.S. BTW, It is my understanding that you cannot flat spot radial tires.

IEATVETS,you can flat spot any tire.

WANTED, if you don't mind me asking what did you get for it? Good luck with your SRT10 search. By the way, I am exactly like you with how I take care of my vehicles and your thinking on the mileage.

So you had a perfect Viper that you were happy with. You were able to sell it and cover what you paid for it including taxes and fees.
Good for you. That was a fortunate deal. Perhaps you can do it again.

When you find the one you want, you will have to pay for the car and all the taxes and fees. 5% one time sales tax in Maryland

Also, any time you buy a used car you take some chance that there will be hidden problems. Everything will probably turn out fine but there is some risk.
The one you had was perfect.

I'm glad you were able to do what you wanted to do.
I just don't think that if you add up all the costs, it will turn out to be a good economic plan to sell the first car to avoid getting over 10k miles on it.

I am also not one to worry about the Value of my GTS dropping a couple grand!

I am more worried about when I have to put her back in storage and not be able to drive her again!!

To each his own....I bought mine to keep.(probably for 10 years or so) My goal was to have one to drive, not to sell and break even..or even make $ on. I look at it as an investment in my happiness!! So far I'm getting my money's worth. :headbang:

Sorry to rag on ya, guess I'm just one of those guys who drives the car and enjoys it first, and thinks about the miles and the next owner second. Life's short. I'll enjoy my car now and put as much mileage as I want, worry about the price I get later. I figured that if the resale price concerned me so much to go to the extent that you went to maintain the car perfect, I probably wouldn't have bought the car in the first place. Put it this way, instead of coming home and spending 4 hours to post-drive-clean the car, I'd rather put it in the garage, go in the house and enjoy the family, kids, have a glass of wine, or whatever and some other day clean the car up. As for putting a cover over the car every time I put it in the garage......I just could not be bothered.

And by the way, how much more money (percentage) did you really get as compared to the amount of time you spent to keep the car perfect? Sounds to me for the time to have been worth at least minimum wage, you better have tripled your money on the car.

Wanted, you did what you felt you had to do. I've learned quickly, that you have to have thick skin to post on this forum. The bottom line is that "You're Happy"! I bought my viper to drive also. I have 39,000 miles on my viper and i don't care what I get when I sell it because it's been fun for me. I'm just as anal as the next person when it comes to taking care of the vehicle and I love to drive my viper. I think that you did "Damn Good"! As long as you are happy, that's all that matters. Now, when are you getting another viper so that we can keep on seeing you at the events? Hurry up, V.O.I. is right around the corner!

that may be true, but it still doesnt make sense...he describes this car as so factory perfect, where is he going to find a car in such shape for much less than he sold his car for?...also im going to assume he probably spent high hundreds if not thousands of dollars in detailing supplies if he detailed the car as often and as meticulously as he says he did....maybe im just a stupid mustang owner but it just doesnt make sense...It's a car, a beautiful, and powerful car that was not built to be a show piece. That car was designed as the modern incarnation of the Shelby Cobra. The car was built and designed to be driven, and driven hard. That car probably wasnt even fully broken in. And would probably dyno considerably down on power from the average because of the way it was presumably driven...idk...again maybe im just a stupid Mustang owner...who dreams of someday owning a Viper that will be driven....

Some peoples have way too much time on their hands, spending 4 hours cleaning the car after every single ride?
give me a break.

Right, four hours every time is way beyond normal.

A guy who would do that, probably couldn't stand the idea that his Viper has 10k miles on it.
What would people say? That extra digit would be as big a turn off as dust on the tops of the rear shocks.
We can't have that!

I think he want's a low miles Viper because it poses better.

Like someone else pointed out. Where's he going to find a perfect Viper, with very low miles, for less than the perfect one he had?

"always treated the car knowing someday i would sell it"

When you were a kid did you ever go into someone's house and see those clear plastic covers on the sofa?

Man, some of you guys are brutal. Wanted, its America and as Bobby Brown once said (prior to another @sswhooping on Whitney), "It's my perogative, and I do what I want to do!"
Just do your thing and if you don't want to drive your car many miles or you want to sell after a certain # of miles, or you decide to rice up your car, it is your car and it's your life and all the power to you.
