My trans has bad 5th gear synchros. I figure this winter will
be the perfect time to remove and rebuild it.
Just so I have an idea, what is it like to pull the trans ?
Should be fairly straight forward, but are there any tricks
or things to look out for ?
Should the clutch be replaced at this time also ? The car is
just about to turn 20k. If so, what's the good clutch set up ?

Robert,

Just did it twice this past weekend with Larry Macedo, Performance Motorsports, leading the way here at my office. We were replacing a bad Blueprint Tranny with a new one got it up in there, bolted it up pretty much done, pressed the clutch and fluid went everywhere, the clutch slave cylinder had a stress fracture, "everything" had to come back out. This is the only common part other than the shifter we used between the two. This happened about 3:00 Saturday afternoon and closest one and the only one we could find was in Florida at Performance Motorsports(Thanks Michael Lachinsky for going getting it). It took a lot of begging on our part with the air lines to be so gracious to ship it with everything going on, thanks to the terrorist nothing ships easy anymore, try it.... Bottom line Sunday morning it is in ready to go to The Glen.

Now with what I learned, this assumes no lift:
3 people - two(good men) to stab the transmission, one to guide the jack.
The top two bolts are pretty tough to get to.
Good 4-5 hour job, we could do much faster now with our practice.
I would replace the slave cylinder, I will let the other guys suggest what to with the clutch.
