Are you going to want to do more than simple read and reset?
As in LTFT etc?

Just curious, about how long does it take to read and then erease a typical code?

The code comes up almost instanteously when you plug in a typical unit. Erasing it occurs just as quick as you can push the correct sequence of buttons. Now diagnosing and correcting the problem....

There is a big difference between a properly running OBD reader that can be bought cheaply and used to read most codes and then be used to reset the codes...and one that can read more codes, in a more detailed fashion and then be used to interact with the PCM.

Lets say you have a VEC unit and want to tune it. A more sophisticated OBD reader is required to interact with the stock PCM. A simple OBD code reader, one from Harbor Freight, Partsrack, Roe,etc. will not do this. They will work perfectly in all other regards, but not in this regard. These same vendors (not Harbor Freight!) will also sell excellent high end readers.

There are a number of interactive readers available. I use the EASE reader and it works well. A Dodge dealer will have a more expensive reader, but as the EASE system uses the full power of my laptop, it is as powerful as the Dodge hand held readers. A quick review of the threads here will reveal that alot of guys have a whole assortment of great readers/interactive OBD tools.

Thanks. The reason I asked is that I have Sean's (Roe) reader and it takes a good 2 minutes to cycle through the codes before erasing. Not a bid deal, but often I'd just like to pull the code and continue on my way rather than having to wait a few minutes to cycle through the codes 3-4 times.

(Impatient bastage I am :D )
