Homegrown ROE dipstick post

I saw a post a while back with pics of someones home grown ROE SC dipstick to check the SC oil level. Anyone have that one? I can't find it on the search. I've lost my dipstick and need to do a quick check before this weekend.

Just use a paperclip bent at a zig zag. Make a mark 3" down from the top of the housing. That will be your max level.

Take 2 white twisties that come with garbage bags. Twist them together to make a longer one. Stick the twisty into the hole until it bottoms out (wouldn't have to bottom out as 3" from the top is what you're shooting for). Pinch the twisty with your fingers flush with the top of the case and pull it out. Now, either measure for your 3", or like I just did.....line up the dipstick where your fingers are holding the twisty. The oil soaks into the twisty exactly at it's level--discoloring it. With the dipstick lined up with the twisty, you can see exactly where your level falls between the hash nmarks. This method shows me at the midpoint of the hash points....hardly worth adding any oil.

from the other thread it appears that there is no room to leave the dipstick in the case at all times. It apparently hits the hood blanket. But I dont understand why they dont just keep it in their tool box. There are 2 lines on the stick, and it should be at no more than the lower line for anything above 20 lbs. In the middle of the lines to the top line for less than 20 lbs.

I think I recall reading a post by Damn Yankee on how to secure the dipstick with a Roe installation. I don't remember what he did to get clearance under the hood. If I can find it I'll post the link.

The problem is being able to cipher the oil level on the dipstick. It's darn near impossible to see as the oil is very light in color. The method I described above works slick as it discolors the twisty allowing the older naked eye to much easier see the level

I had been leaving it out of the car to make sure there aren't any issues. Unfortunately, I've got 3 kids under 5. Sometimes tools/etc left out go missing. I'm going to get another one, but I have an event this weekend. No time to get a new one and I need to check the oil level at the track.
