    The Quest for 275 MPH

I do have vertical strakes on the roof and we also plan for the same on the rear between the hatch and quarter panels. I'm also working on making several spoilers with varying heights to help us put a little downforce on the rear. These will not be very tall, maybe a 1.5", a 2" and a 2.5", these...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

We know the rear is heavier at this point but won't know numbers until we scale it after it's finished. A lot of rear mid engine cars have a weight bias toward the rear wheels. Just quick check online I've seen 45/55 is fairly common. Stock Vipers are about 50/50. Total weight in land speed cars...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

We haven't put it on the scales as of yet but it will weigh more than a typical stock Viper. It has a lot of weight added to the rear to include intercoolers, turbos, about 6 gallons of oil, 32 gals of water, fire bottles, nitrous bottles and more. Weight doesn't hurt me in land speed events...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

It has been Jeff, almost 4 years worth to get it to this point. It's been so long since I've driven it and it is no longer the same car with all the changes. over double WHP, sequential 6 speed, 4 disc clutch, MoTec and on and on. I need a little seat time before we go to Arkansas but not sure I...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

Here are pictures of the parachutes going back on. These are land speed chutes so 1st pull is smaller chute and longer tether, 2nd pull is bigger chute and shorter tether. First chute makes sure the car is straight and 2nd chute is to help deaccelerate. It will be interesting to see how it all...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

We were back on the dyno again but apparently there is a ground issue with either the MoTec or factory pcm. Gearhead is working to figure out the issue. At about 750 WHP on the dyno the engine was having issues as the voltage dropped to 8 volts on the coil packs once you loaded it up past that...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

Here is my helmet for the attempt at 275 MPH, I've had that same decal on a few helmets over the years.

    Good read.

Was a good article, thanks for posting

    The Quest for 275 MPH

It seems that the oil leaks at the turbos has been fixed, combination of the pressure regulators and drain tank did the trick. I'm not sure on the oil viscosity, but I will ask Gearhead about that. We do warm the oil up by letting the car idle before any pulls on dyno are done. It holds about 7...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

Just a short update on where we are at with Blucifer. Gearhead has had the car on the dyno a few times, ran it thru the gears including reverse. Runs great but tuning is not complete so there is more to be done in that regard. We are having small issue with turbos leaking oil into the inlet side...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

This afternoon Blucifer got a little closer to completion. It's on the dyno and was scheduled to be tuned today but some issues with a battery kill switch that was probably 8 years foiled that attempt. Gearhead is replacing it out and hopefully we get an opportunity to see what it does later...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

Today Gearhead filled the iceboxes for the intercoolers, there are (2) of them located behind the rear wheels. Each icebox held 16 gals of water for a total of 32 gals. It's going to be a 1.25 to 1.5 mile run to break 275 and this should allow for enough ice/water to keep that boost charge cool...

    The Quest for 275 MPH

Here is a picture of the work Greg Good did to the heads. What we do is pipe from the back of the heads back to the upper radiator hose to prevent those steam pockets. The housing is a little thin in that area so he built it up a bit and then tapped it for 1/2" lines

    The Quest for 275 MPH

We run E85 and will probably have both a street tune and a track tune that both will use E85. I run Ethanol One "R" and buy it in 55 gal drums. Keeps that blend consistent vs the local gas stations. Landspeed does have a few more issues with heat due to the amount of time you are WOT. The E85...
