Gen 1 vs Gen 2 Air Conditioning

Hi all. I’m interested in owning a Gen 2 Viper. I also live in one of the hottest parts of the US.

I’ve been told that Gen 1 cars have a lot of cabin heat and fairly lackluster air conditioning. Was there any improvement, in either / both, on the Gen 2 models?

The system is typically the same on both, might be a bit better on the Gen 2 cars. The biggest issue is the cats. They get really hot, if you can remove them completely or maybe do Hi-flow cats, it will help reduce the heat.

That said, I am selling a yellow 2001 RT/10, 15K miles cheap. Drive it home!!

Thank you. I figured they’d probably be the same equipment giving the same performance - it’s a shame. Can’t do anything about the cats due to state emission laws

Reducing cabin heat soak is the biggest issue. There are some things that can be done to reduce it fairly easily:

1. Get a car with aftermarket headers or factory tubular manifolds (I believe they are from 1998+)
2. Replace cats with a modern cat - new EPA & CA compliant are more efficient and significantly smaller.
3. Vent rocker panels / side sills by cutting off the fender liner at the front.
4. Remove seal at rear of hood to allow more heat out of engine bay directly in front of cabin.
5. Make driver side hood vent functional.
