Dave6666,
it looks like the bolt is more accessible from the top? When I had my car on my lift last fall, I was prepared to take the bolt out and red locktite it and re torque to 250 ft lbs’s but was trying to do it from the underside. It was tight getting the breaker bar in there due to front...
I believe you have a 96 GTS and that's what I own. Who is going to do it for you? I am not far from Tator and I may have him do mine... Also, Revheats 96 GTS bible does mention this in the Doc...
Dave who? Not Dave me, I suggested Helicoil type fix (because he has stripped threads) with new balancer and pinning.
She must mean dave6666.. Dude, you are causing some serious confusion on this thread!
Can you elaborate on why you can’t install the Timesert in the car given enough room to gain access in the front?
I also would make a jig that attaches to the balancer with a hole in the center so the drill bit goes in square.
I could be missing something though..
I agree with Dean, I would try the Timesert with a new balancer and then pin it. What do you have to lose??? If you have problems again, then you can go the crank route and by that time, maybe your financial situation will be more favorable.
You have nothing to lose!
I just installed a LUK in my 3000gt and like it. Got it off Amazon for $107. It was a kit and came with throw out bearing, disk, pressure plate and alignment tool.
Understood. I am trying to educate myself on the before and after options. I am sure others have / had the same questions and this would make a good search thread if others have questions OR are in the same situation as the OP.
Thanks for taking the time!!!
I agree but the reason why the older cars have keyed balancers is because the ignition timing is based off the balancer and the balancer has to go on an exact spot on the crank to denote TDC for #1 cylinder.
BUT with that said, these cranks should still be keyed…
So I guess I have 2 questions for you.
1) What would be the cheapest way (not asking price) that you (your company) can do to fix it? And what would it entail for work (IE pulling motor and replacing just crank, perform some kind of work with motor in the car etc…)
2) What would you do to...
Roe Racing sells the Kit..
You can do what I do, put a paint mark on the bolt and the pulley and check it on occasion. If the bolt rotates, you will see the mark no longer aligned! Then you can address it before its too late.
WOW, nice call GTS_Dean!!!
I was thinking heli-coil but this looks better!
Most you will have to do is remove some things in the front of the motor to gain good access...
Take your time and you should be good to go!!!
The fix is to pin it (safest) OR remove the bolt, locktite it (Making SURE you CLEAN the Bolt and the crank threads with a non-residue cleaner) and then re-torque. You have to make sure you clean the threads, Locktite does not like oil or grime!!!
Can the crank be heli-coiled?
Another question I have is why would the bearings (internal to the engine) be bad if it’s just the harmonic Balancer and pulley that came off (which is external to the motor)?
I am not familiar with the V-10’s but have extensive knowledge of chevy and ford big and...
Hi WOT, I have been a member since 2006 but I didn’t have a car at the time. I was going to buy one but found it hard to justify it back then… Well I finally purchased one back in July. The only other Viper owner I have met is KNGSNK down at Patriots place car show last summer, other than that...
So since the link was removed (sorry Mr Moderator) it’s a White / Blue RT/10 with a salvage title on flea-bay in Mass..
The car is 10 minutes from my work and I saw it on ebay and since I own a 96 B/W, I figured why not buy an RT/10 that I didn’t care what happens to it especially on our...
