UPDATE:
Back in NV and had the 3000 rpm idle hang at a mere 6200 ft.
However, now with two "recent" events, I believe it is a "cold" temperature event. These past two events occurred with ambient temp in the 50's which is unusally cold in NV when I visit.
Fuel economy is now about 150 miles...
Back to this again. (car is in NV, I'm in PA but will be in NV tomorrow for about 3 weeks)
NOTE: This may be academic since I want the visors for cross country drive back to PA, but this year has been one gut wrenching disaster after another and my tolerance level is now zero. If I got a...
Relevant thread resurrected!
I'm the other way: cheapest open carrier that will not rip the Hennesey front fascia off from Carson City, NV to Pittsburgh, PA. (if it was cheap enough, I'd gladly do the 'glass repair (!)
Good Grief! this thing is Speed Density!
Argh........ (unavailable Banging Head Against Brick Wall emoticon)

EDIT:
Plan of action: first fix the P0175 Bank 2 rich AND 33% loss in fuel economy (200 miles per tank instead of 300).
First scan and see what is...
I still haven't talked to Dan yet (left message) and from what people say, he is The Guy. I wish there was someone closer. Ted May @ Valaya is 3 hours away from Carson City, NV and I don't know what is available near Pittsburgh.
My concern could be trivial or a complete mess.
One question is...
Flying back to NV and this problem Friday (+4 days from now)
I have to decide whether to try and fix this while I have access to high altitude before I take the car back to PA.
The one thing that I suspect is a simple intake manifold leak. Perhaps it would be worth to simply replace them...
I sense a contradiction: Lots of people say SCT is the way to go, but it appears there is no documentation and the process is not intuitive and cryptic.
I have a 96 GTS w/cam, heads, headers, NOx that I don't think was ever tuned. I wish it was a stock engine w/ROE supercharger - I would just...
Dan, You said something that I found quite troubling:
This issue is very common on head and cam change cars when the tuning is not precise. There is an area in the Map where the computer does not understand the relation between MAP and TPS, the high idle is mostly timing advance, not IAC...
Just had a theory on what could be happening taking into consideration the P0175 rich bank code.
It actually goes back to the dyno curve on nitrous.
This car had 123 bottles through the 150 shot system. The fuel system was left stock and fuel to the nitrous nozzles was taken from the injector...
So is the dipstick level mark the same for both pans?
I got the oil changed and it took 9 quarts AND the OE dipstick was manually scribed lower than the stock FULL mark.
One other related question: Is there a larger oil filter that can be used?
Thanks Dan!
So it you start the engine at 5000' and then drive to 9000' , the ECU think BARO is still at 5000?
I seem to recall when it did this 10k miles ago, I tried shutting engine off and then starting. This last episode I didn't try that.

The idle being timing...
Trying to get a specific answer to "Does it sound like a Vacuum Leak?"
This is part of a much larger problem for which I have a thread "...High Idle... High Altitude..."
Specifically listing codes in title may attract more Wizards I'm hoping.
MORE INFO:
Turns out it is going on at 4500 altitude - never really noticed it because at this altitude, the idle sometimes hangs around 1500-1700.
The VEC1 LOW can act as an idle speed control - but its not that simple.
At this altitude, adjusting LOW to MAX or MIN causes it to drop to idle...
Rough itinerary is back roads to I-70 in Colorado. That's the only Interstate I specifically want to drive on - they say its spectacular.
There isn't much I'm aware of trying to see in the Mid-West so probably Interstates there too. However state highways are probably straight and fast too...
I plan to drive cross country Carson City, NV to Pittsburgh, PA with no definite itinerary. I may do it in 4 days or 10 days depending on my mood.
But I do confess neither GPS nor Internet maps are capable of planning an interesting tour. The roads of interest "go away" when you zoom out so...
Finally pics:
Turns out my memory of the pan was completely wrong. No rectangular iso grid (maybe I confused trans or rear???)
But fortunately I save face because mine has 3 ribs and not the 2 of the pan I said I didn't have (!)
I don't know what's up with my ID. I can post, but I can't click on links - it says I don't have permission. Can't click any of the How To Do It links either. Can click on Search links though.
Any ideas?
Don't know. It had California Official Upgrades done to it - there are official tags in the engine compartment.
My guess is no. TNT Motorsports did the heads and cam and then a 150 shot nitrous system was added - I would have to guess that someone local in SoCal did that. NOTE: The nitrous...
There are 2 reasons for a deeper pan: more oil and less windage (keeping oil lower and away from crank.)
I wish I had read these posts earlier - I just had the car on a rack for oil change. I got a good look at the pan. It is "square iso-grid" finned aluminum with a sump that is NOT the...
I'm trying to figure out what pan Wayne Skiles put on "Bad Viper."
He told me when I bought it that he did something and had to scribe a new, lower fill mark on the dip stick. But I've forgotten.
Could it be that newer Gen II's had deeper pans?
I know when I put the 9-ish (don't remember...
I've had this happen twice. At high altitude in the Sierra Mountains in NV/CA, engine idle will increase to 2500 (and as high as 3500) in a few seconds. Dwell there for 5 to 20 seconds and then "burp" or "fart" down to proper idle. At normal altitude of 4000-5000 when I would back off going...
Yeah, they suck - and that's why I need the driver's side - I removed it when I had to wear a helmet.
However, I'm going to put about 3000 miles driving cross country and when your into the sun with a sand blasted windshied... well, that completely sucks.
Maybe someone should design visors...
