This video of my car was taken during a private track rental. It was my first time at the track with this combo, was there mostly to try and dial in the launch. The clutch didn't like higher rpm launches, it would slip if I left at anything higher than 5000 rpm. These were mostly 4000 rpm...
Agreed. The Mustang doesn't belong on that list, but the engine does. The rest of the car is low quality junk. If there were a new Ford GT with that engine, it would be spectacular.
The ZR1 baseline MSRP was $112K. That is more expensive than a Gen V viper, which base MSRP was $104K...
Well written post, Bruce. I hope I've been able to contribute to your upcoming addiction to Vipers. This site has done a horrible job at promoting the new car, and allowing those trolls to run rampant way too long. I know several Gen 5 owners that are local, and none of them even want to...
My point is that there is always someone faster at the track. And, last time I checked, nobody at the track cares if your car is a 1969 or a 2014. There are no drag racing classes for 2014 only models. Hence the reason I don't buy my cars based on what they do when stock. I know the 911TS...
Running a low 11 in a Viper takes driver skill. Running a 10 in a Porsche takes writing a check. Impressive performer, but I don't buy my cars based on which car is the fastest in the world. All of them are slow compared to my '06 Viper, which I built myself. Stock performance gets a "meh"...
McLaren claims "sub-7 second" on their new P1, but hasn't and likely won't ever reveal the official time. I read an article in EVO magazine while in London on the subject, they don't see the value in setting 'Ring records at the sake of killing drivers. They claim to only want to use the track...
One major thing to point out, that many people do not realize. A car can be rare. A car can be desirable. For it to be collectible, it must be both. I see many people thinking they have some future collectible because it may be 1 of 1. Many times, there is a reason only one car was built -...
Funny story that is somewhat related. I bought a new '13 Ram 4x4 Sport about a week after I got the '13 Viper. It has the same radio as the Viper. It used to have the SRT Performance ap on the radio, and when I'd open it up it would show the vehicle was thinking it was an SRT8 Jeep, with the...
I've been in Europe for the last month, so no updates here. Rest assured, I always share info when I do receive it. If it never gets "fixed", so be it. I don't consider it crisis, like some do.
Hemi Cudas sat on lots when new, too. They seem to do okay now.
I can see all gens of the Viper coupe doing well over time, especially the popular colors like blue/white, SSG. If the govt begins to set limits on hp and engine size, even better odds.
LOL at anyone who buys cars based on magazine articles. Seriously. Arguing performance specs between even the top 10 cars gets a bit silly, when they all can perform very well. I bought a Viper because I wanted a Viper. I didn't want a Corvette, GT-R, 911, etc... And no pussified magazine...
Still the best Viper made to date. If you are a Viper enthusiast, then you'd still have some desire to own the best of the best.
I often wonder what these guys that complain about the performance actually drive? Do any of you currently own Viper(s) that outperform the Gen V?
Don't do that. The K&N puts the Viper into reduced power mode, and sets a check engine code. The pleats of the 4th gen filter are in the wrong direction for the 5th gen, and mess up the flow profile across the MAF sensors.
Nice color combo. Was it an SRT or GTS model?
Hood pops even with doors locked, just like every other generation before that. Yes, it sets alarm off. For car shows, you can pop the hood and then arm the door locks, and it won't set off the alarm with it left open.
Good write-up. Your comparison with the previous Gen 4 is spot-on, surprised you remembered so many intricacies of the previous car since it has been a while. The steering in the 5 is definitely tighter and more responsive than the previous gen. The clutch pedal should be identical to the 4...
