WANTED, I would normally push a car in the staging lanes, if I were trying to set some record pass. I wasn't. I just wanted to see what the car ran, just like I drove it normally. The track was over an hour away from my house. I do try and minimize idle or engine running time, I just turn...
It is clear that some people haven't read the question properly. Mark wasn't asking what could be done to make the car "better". He is asking what single change (barring price) could SRT do, that would make YOU purchase a Gen V (assuming you could afford it). Changing tires or brake rotors...
I contacted a couple SRT engineers over the weekend, and had a conference call with them today. They were concerned with what I'd reported, and want to help figure things out. They asked all sorts of technical questions about the setup of the car, weather conditions, any mods, etc.. I gave...
It isn't that difficult to launch these cars on the street, with all the torque and the huge rear tire. Traction really isn't an issue.
His shifts were slowwww.
Just from the TX Viper owners that I've met and know, I'd say the docile and slow driving gene didn't make it this far south. We like hauling ass, down here. The car crowd I normally run in, 1000 at the wheels is mid-level in our pack. 800 at the wheels is entry level. These are street cars.
This isn't an issue that only hits Vipers, several makes/models that use the similar hydraulic clutch slave layout also fail. Usually random, but higher miles does contribute to the failure. There is just a rubber o-ring inside the slave body, it usually goes bad after enough clutch disk...
Actual data, in the form of a who's best comparison list, doesn't exist. So, your claims of the Viper being flimsy are also not justified. I can tell by having owned/driven the Viper vs the Z06, since I owned them at the same time. The C6Z06 would flex and make squeaks, and slightly twist...
Again, you are showing you have no knowledge of the Gen V Viper. This car is the stiffest chassis car I've driven, far less flex than any Corvette I've owned. It is even stiffer than my '06 Viper, which was already stiffer than the C6's I've owned. The SRT track pack is also not very heavy at...
Answer one question for us, seriously. If SRT's marketing was brilliant, and the car was unchanged from what it currently is; would you have purchased a Gen V Viper?
If not, then marketing isn't really to blame. Those of us who did buy them, didn't buy them because of magazine articles or...
I would like to propose the VCA creates a "Complaining about SRT / Gen V" sub-forum, so we have a specific forum for that. Then maybe the Gen V owners and shoppers can use the Gen V forum, as it was intended for. To give feedback about the Gen V, and ask questions about the Gen V.
I've never...
Will, what clutch is in that car? You mention having to slip it for the first 100 ft. The stock Gen 4 clutch (same disks as Gen 5) don't like slipping at all.
To further Jack's list:
6. Viper owners shouldn't have to be accused of "defending", or "justifying their purchase of" any Viper, on a VIPER CLUB website. That is what this site is about, Vipers. The Corvette sites treat Gen V owners better, and that is a shame.
7. Whenever Gen V owners...
His car was 6 mph faster at the 1/8 and the 1/4 mile than my car. That is a HUGE power difference. Reduced power mode is boring, unless you are a Corvette owner. Then it would feel fast. :)
Optimism: SRT Viper on reduced power is still quicker/faster than a C7 with a custom tune.
:rolaugh:
Yes, the blue C7 was stock, went 11.8. Automatic trans car. The red C7 had a custom tune, went 11.47 on stock tires.
My last two passes were only 120 mph and 122 mph. That is a severe reduction in power, and based on my experience with racing that indicates roughly 400-420 rwhp, or around...
Definitely seen by the eye. Even on some passes I've made in the daylight, when the lights are turned off, the tails would flicker during a shift. LOL if we have to install a disable brake pedal switch to make these things run.
Only 1 car has been tested at an actual strip, it was the white one on drag radials that went 11.1 @ 128. That was a manufacturer plate vehicle. The magazine guys typically do not use a drag strip, they just use GPS timers on private roads or pavement. That is another reason magazine times...
George, excellent post. We may be on to something, knowing that info about the Gen 4. I could see how the computer might not like the brake + accelerator. Might be as simple as disabling the brake light switch on the pedal, for track visits. I did not attempt any non-burnout runs, due to us...
Edited the thread. The red C7 had s custom dyno tune already done to it. The blue C7 was still stock. Looks like the tune was worth 4 tenths!

If anyone reading this personally knows Dick Winkles, could they please phone or email him for the answer? Why were they pulling ECM wiring harnesses loose to make dyno runs on this video:

Everyone that has dynoed their '13 Viper has been only able...
Density Altitude was approx +650 ft above sea level, on my pass. Temps were around 72F at the time. Later on in the night, when the C7 ran the fastest pass, DA was around +250'. Good weather, not record-setting weather. Sometimes we get lucky enough to have negative sea level DA, but it is rare.
