My thinking...and now I'm second guessing....was that as opposed to removing the lamp with it's mounting bracket....remove the lamp and leave the bracket in the car. Once it's unbolted you can get one hand in from the front...one from the back and remove/replace the bracket from the lamp.
When...
Saw the new Viper in NY today.
Looks better in person than in pictures, the interior is an improvement. Very much reminds me of a Gen II....but all that's been said here before.
What I didn't like? The carbon fiber bits. The rear "bandit mask" and side scoops to me look like afterthought...
If memory serves...there's a check valve that can be installed at the passenger side manifold hose to help stop the air direction changing to the defrost. (If that's the problem you're having)
I too have been anxious to see the car and will be going to NY to see it in person.
I'm not a fan of those LED lights in a row around the headlights....seems ricey to me. The whole carbon fiber thing in the back, ditto. In one picture they show the "scoops" in the hood that remind me of those...
bdelass....had to see...but I wonder if the door hinges need an adjustment that the weatherstripping is shot on both sides in the same place? You're right, the scratch on the fascia would both me, too. But it's also scraped underneath too and along the very edge. (I made up a molding for mine to...
The whole "creampuff" piston debate is nuts. So many performance cars come with the cast pistons. My former '03 Cobra had them, and the Cobra guys boost the snot over factory without the pistons falling apart.
But...I agree...the best year Viper is the one in your garage.
Some good advice already.
Everyone has their own opinion...but I'll throw mine out on a few things.
Oil. I use the Mobil 1 oil and filter. (Or sometimes the new Viper specific Mopar filter) Amsoil may make great products, but I have a real problem with their tests and demonstrations to show...
Still available from Chrysler or Viper Parts of America. I think the first year for the full "blanket" was 1995. There's only 1 part number for all those years now. I know the one on my '96 RT is the same as the one on my '00 GTS.
I knew my memory wasn't "that" bad. Thanks very much to Bill Pemberton on another thread for affirming my comment about the model year 2000 penalty in Viper Days. (Thanks also to Camfab)
My comments weren't merely a "good try"...but based on fact.
From Bill's other post.....
In the land of...
JackB is probably right about an ABS penality, I have no memory of that, but of course that wouldn't have happened until 2001.
I do remember (unless my memory is completely out to lunch) that the summer I took delivery of my 2000... those cars were penalized.
.
I agree, nicely done.
While perhaps very slight changes, the '99s and later also had power mirrors, an inside hatch release and lost the foglight covers.
As a reminder, the RT/10 cams/pistons changed at the same time as the GTS.
The only reason to change from cast to forged pistons is if you plan to super or turbocharge the engine as the cast pistons can only handle so many pounds of boost. (I think, about 8)
I've been around these cars long...
OPENRUP....in case you were asking about my lift...which is a TD6MR.
Lowered, it's about 5.5 - 5.75" total. I do have 2x12s on either side or the Viper doesn't clear. It lifts about 50" with several safety stop positions.
I bought this lift (as did friends who have a body shop) at the Greg...
Jay...you do realize that the link you've listed shows a mid-rize that picks the car up by the floor?
I have a mid-rise from Greg Smith that'll lift about 50" and has arms that allow the pads to be placed where they belong.
It's also moveable, plugs into 120v, and I park my daily driver over it.
For what it's worth.....
The cylinder head gaskets might need replacing on Gen 1 Vipers. WILL need replacing if not already done..it's not a matter of "if"..a matter of "when".
The Viper had forged pistons until 1999 and they "might be" more durable. ONLY an issue if supercharging over about 6...
If there's heat at other positions, like defrost...there could be a vacuum leak no allowing the controls to work correctly. Without looking at my cars, I beleive there's a vacuum hose connection at the passenger side intake that could be off. Or, the dash controls could have an issue.
