Certificate Program #3 for the coupe? I vote yes

Here's an idea for those slammin' the SRT/10 and holding out for the coupe. How about certificates for the new coupe (like in 1996) for buyers and holders of SRT/10s? You buy and keep (not flip) your SRT/10 and you are first in line for the coupe when it becomes available. Flame suit on, but...

Who is running cat-less on 00-01

Tony, I have the Apex "snake boxes" and no secondary O2s. I get no check engine light on my '01 GTS. I do have cats at this point. I do not know if the Mopar computer will prevent secondary O2 problems, but the Snake Boxes seem to work fine.

EBC rear pad users on 2001-2 (ABS-equipped) cars

To those that switched to EBC pads, did you do so early on and did your stock pads appear to have plenty of life left? If so, please email me privately if you would like to sell your stockers. It turns out that EBC, Hawk and Performance Friction do not sell a race compound pad for the rears on...

I,ve been told that front end alignment is a "BIG deal

Re: I,ve been told that front end alignment is a \"BIG deal I would never do a "front end" alignment on a Viper. It should be all 4 wheels and is a fair bit of work, but not that big a deal. It should not take more than 3-4 hrs with proper setup tools. It can also be done at home with camber...

    SPRING RATES ACR

I think the earlier ACR that uses the KONI 2812 damper has 400 front, 700 rear, 2.25" ID racing springs. The later Racing Dunamic Dampers are higher, and the 550/1100 combo may be right. I think the spring ID will be the same, it is a standard.

Why Vipers belong on a Road Course and Not the 1/4 Mile

Some questions: How much, out the door, to someone who is not an insider with HRC to duplicate that car? How many head gaskets have you been through? Be honest. How many total miles has the car been driven, in its current iteration, with the hood closed and not a single wrench turned (except...

Why do we have such bad brakes?

Bob and David are on target. I have done the calculations - the stock viper calipers are set at 71% front bias for the '92-'00 cars; the front bias is 63% on the '01-'02 cars. Now, with a Viper stopping at 1g and if the center of gravity is about 15-20 inches high (I don't know the precise...

Stopping distance improvement of ABS Vipers over non-ABS?

Also do not forget that the ABS-equipped cars have larger rear calipers, at least as significant as ABS in braking performance. I calculated the bias change to put about 5% mor braking on the rear than the pre-ABS cars and that equates to less chance of front lockup at threshold as well as...

    Brake Calipers

Rear caliper rebuilds are very tricky business; I strongly suggest getting takeoffs if they are reasonable. There is an internal snap ring that must be seated blindly when assembling all of the internal parts that comprise the e-brake mechanism. It must have taken me 3 hours to do the first...

Why you buy shaft mounted rockers.........inside!

That is a potential risk, but I have many, many miles - many on track - with the Crowers. I bought one set from the used parts off this list and it was obvious that the installer had not set the lash properly, as every one had been galled slightly by being cranked down onto the stud. I really...

Why are the BFG's G-Force tires so much less than the Michelins?

Re: Why are the BFG\'s G-Force tires so much less than the Michelins? The G Force R1 is also a dead dinosaur. You can't buy them anymore except inventory on hand (which is dwindling quickly).

    Weight balance

50/50 is not necessarily "perfect" Modern race cars, especially open wheel, run in the 40-30/60-70 F/R range. I am not sure of all the reasons why, but one would be better distribution of braking forces under threshold braking. So a bit of rear bias I think is a better thing than 50/50.

    Test Drive Joke?

I would say find some local VCA folks, but the regular 140-170 mph driving thing makes me very reluctant to even suggest that. I am afraid I would only let you ride in my car, not drive it. And I am no wuss - I track my car and only touch the 140s(maybe 150s on a real flyer) on the faster...

    Help, problem with O2 sensors

I have the Apex "Snake Box" O2 sims and no check engine light with completely removed secondary O2s and over 1000 miles now. I do have cats, I was just rtying this out to see if I can make track bypass tubes for the cats without tripping the MIL and I think I can.

High flow cats should not throw a code. I have my regular cats, but also have the Apex "Snake Box" O2 sims for the secondary O2s and am pleased to report over 1000 miles with no check engine light and I have no secondary O2s on the car at all. Oh, the secondary O2s do nothing but confirm...

Punks Messing With Me Tonight, So I Taught Them A Lesson

Were you in the left lane? Not to flame, but the left lane is for overtaking (and apparently minivans and SUVs, preferably on the phone). That may have incited (but not justified) the move. I always get out of the left lane if not overtaking and let the faster traffic by. But it irritates...

    nagging coolant leak solved

Sean, Now I feel bad! Did you always have the earlier car kit? I bought your Gen II kit and I could swear at the time that you did not have one for the RT/10 (this is an OLD project I am only now getting to). The RT/10 setup is significantly different for me, since there is no "built-in"...

    nagging coolant leak solved

On my '93, I have had no similar problems, even on track. I check my coolant level between track sessions when everything is REALLY hot and use my bleeder fittings http://www.viperclub.org/news/bleedersannouncement.html which are refrigerant-grade schrader valves "T'd" into the upper...
