I plan on losing the cats on my 00 ACR. I have the Mopar computer to hopefully stop the C/E light. I will leave the door resonators in to help with noise. I have ran straight pipe on the rear muffler. Should I expect any HP gains. The main reason is to stop some of the cabin heat.

Tony,

I have the Apex "snake boxes" and no secondary O2s. I get no check engine light on my '01 GTS. I do have cats at this point. I do not know if the Mopar computer will prevent secondary O2 problems, but the Snake Boxes seem to work fine.

I ran a Mopar computer early last summer for a month or so. It took the light out immediately. No codes set..either 02's or cats. However, on a dyno, the Mopar unit robbed power. In fact, the guy that let me use it(97 GTS)also lost about 20 HP with it on. My 02's are now moved, but I still get a light..although intermittently. If I don't get a set of hi flow cats, I may buy the snake box in the spring. I am also getting a code reader/eraser for these pesky heater and cat codes.

I dynod the car stock with the mopar computer, and it did 415rwp & 460rwt. Compared to most stock 00 that is on the high side. The A/F was perfect as well around 11.9. So, pulling the cats should help a little. I will dyno and see after the cats are removed. Even if it does just a hair more on power, the heat loss will be a plus. I just wanted to make sure it would take care of the C/E light.

Steve, what are your mods?? Also, what did you dyno. The Mopar computer acted funny for about 500 miles then it learned the car and did fine.

I bought the Actron OBDII scanner from a local Parts America for $149 plus tax. It takes 2 seconds to clear the code(s) and has worked great for me. No Mopar computer!

We use one of the Matco OBII scanners works great, but if you get a light could cause you to be down on power right?? It can check your voltage on your 02's as well

Tony,

I am running the full Belanger system.....no cats/3" pipe/4 Walker race bullet mufflers. With the Race computer plugged in I dynoed 413.9/461.1 with an A/F ratio which dipped into the 9's at 4400 RPM and stayed down there for the rest of the test. We then unplugged the computer and went back to stock. The numbers now read 430/464.2 with the A/F ratio dropping below 11 at 4000 RPM My buddy with the 97 GTS and same mods did 457/495 with the stock computer. With the Mopar computer, he was 20 something less on each number. On his best run, his A/F ratio did not drop below 13 until after 5500 RPM. 97's don't have a light problem to start with. He had bought the race computer hoping for a performance gain. He sent it back to Parts Rack(they took it willingly). The guy who owned the dyno shop was a former Arrow engine guy and did the dyno testing last year for a Motor Trend article with a Corvette and Viper. He told me my power loss had a lot to do with my rich mixture. Of the 4 cars there that day(97Belanger,98TNT,99ACR-TNT,00Belanger), mine had by far the worst A/F ratio and was the lowest in power of those tested. The 97 Belanger GTS had the most horse power and torque.

When a MIL is set, I believe the computer goes into a 'safe' mode and runs rich. This was confirmed when I got home and had it scanned. My fuel parameters were 22% off.

I have an Equus 3100 OBII reader in the mail---$140 delivered.

Yes, you can clear the codes, but the "Check Engine" light _will_ come back on, sometimes sooner than later. Our Snake Boxes are $249 and will completely eliminate the need to clear any codes occuring from the deletion of the cats.
For clarification, our Snake Boxes, which are a direct plug in and don't require any cutting/splicing/etc., eliminate the "Check Engine" light (aka "MIL" or Malfunction Indicator Light) when the rear O2 sensors sense there are no cats. The rear O2 sensors are part of the car's OBDII (On-Board Diagnostics) system.
Also, we at APEX want to give a round of thanks to all of you who've purchased Snake Boxes (and lots of other parts!) from us. We appreciate the business and all the good press we've received on them from Viper owners on this Board!

Thanks for all the helpful info, I plan to do my homework as you did to obtain the best power gain. Tony
