Picking up this gen 3 monday

I don't know where you're having your oil changed, but my dealer charges about $110, and I can wait and watch TV while they do it. It's cheaper then me buying the oil and doing the work myself, which I did recently (but was doing other work at the time as well.)

    2003/2004 Safety Recall Notice

Thanks Mark. That still seems like a lot for what the letter claims is a 2 hour job. They were going to do it while I wait, but maybe I better arrange for a ride and just leave my car for the day!

    2003/2004 Safety Recall Notice

My dash is stock, but it is 11 years old. I hope something doesn't crack as they're removing it. I thought about leaving it as well, but Steve is right - when it comes time for me to trade or sell the car, I want the recalls done. I looked into this when I bought the car, as some of the 03s did...

    2003/2004 Safety Recall Notice

Just called my dealer to have them order the part in. I'm having them do it when I take the car in for PA inspection next month. I'll update you all after it's done.

    2003/2004 Safety Recall Notice

Steve, I'll probably have my guy at Videon in Newtown Square do it when I have my car PA inspected next month. We'll talk when I see you on Saturday

Oil Change Day this Saturday (April 5'th) My shop

This is always a great time folks. Hey I'll be there, so of course it will be, LOL! The cruise night afterward is also a lot of fun See you Saturday Steve. I have a few heat cycles now to check those pan bolts.

Bumping this back to the top. It's next Saturday folks. Hope to see some of you guys at Steve's, with a nice cruise-in at Pike Creek later in the afternoon.

    2003/2004 Safety Recall Notice

It's been a year since I got the initial letter. May car goes in in a month for annual PA inspection and service, I'll have to call them to make sure they have the part in when I take the car in.

Picking up this gen 3 monday

Looks to be nice, and low mileage. Remember to budget for new tires (Michelin PS2 or Supersports), which will be at least $2000 installed, and check the crank pulley. If it checks out, go for it.

    According to Ralph Gilles

"No DCT is coming. Doesn't fit, doesn't work well for city driving due to torque from Viper V10 engine" Not buying that one. Unless something changed at corporate since last July, that's not what someone at SRT VERY high up (you can guess who) told me to my face last summer at Carlisle.

Hot Tip...Buy the Gen V Collectible while you can still afford to

If I could afford to, I would hav a TA in my garage right now. Unfortunately, I can't, so I'll have to stick with my 2003 for now.

    Engine Light Question?

Go over to Pep Boys, and have them put the code reader on it. I bet you threw a code, then google it, and post it here.

    Engine Light Question?

A flashing CEL isn't good. What year is your car?

Couple events in the next Few weeks...

Bumping this to the top. Steve has a very nice garage, and his hospitality and knowledge of our cars are second to none. His annual "oil change day" is always fun. Even if you aren't doing anything to your car, just come and hang out. And the cruise night which we go to afterwards is very close...

    new to viper-possible stupid questions.

I bought my 03 with the K&N already installed. Doesn't really add much from what I'm told, as the factory setup is good. Nothing bad (except on the Gen 4, then there could be issues) but just not worth the $$, from what I'm told. Of course, upside is it only needs oiling every 50,000 miles, at...

    new to viper-possible stupid questions.

Oil cooler lines, common issues, all of us have had it, or will have it (I have a 2003). Also, I recommend Micheline PS2, which have now been superceded by Supersports, over the Nittos

Couple events in the next Few weeks...

Steve, I will be there for the oil change day on April 5. We can put my car back up on the lift and re-torque any of those pan bolts if necessary. Scott

    Engine light after battery replacement

No, should go away after a couple drive cycles, not just running it on a lift.

Questions RE Spring Improvements on Gen III

Seats Diehard Platinum is the best choice for our Vipers. It's what many of us replace OEM with. I did.

20 Years of Viper Ownership today

George, that's a great story. As I always tell people - it's really not about the cars, it's about the people. I've made (and maintained) many friendships over the years, and many of those cars and trucks are long gone out my life, but the friends remain. People say cars are not good...

Gen II and Gen III/IV Comparison

To the original OP: Gen 3 is 2003-2006. 2008 is start of Gen 4. If you can afford the substantial price differential between Gen3 and 4, go for it.

Gen II and Gen III/IV comparison

Both MoparMap and Frank summed it up either way. I really enjoy my 03.

    Oil Pan Gasket Change

Not sure, Steve could answer that better than me. I will say that the stock Gen 3 pan is a very nicely machined piece, so I can see why the upgraded pan and swinging pickup would be pricey.

    Oil Pan Gasket Change

Hey MoparMap, Dom has a Gen 2, and it is completely different.
