    ACR wing adjustment?

A wing capable of contributing 70% (you generally want more on the rear so you can feed in more power) of the ACR's stated 1000lbs. @150mph would produce around 150lbs. @ 70mph at the same setting. Since the 1000lb. figure is likely with the front splitter extension in and the wing at max AoA...

    ACR wing adjustment?

What would I ask Herb? Anything printed in the manual has gone through the same lawyer filters that gave us warning stickers to put children in the back seat. Nothing magical happens at 50mph. FWIW, I have studied aerodynamics for years, and built from scratch several of my own wings - from...

    ACR wing adjustment?

Jon, the magnitude of forces the ACR wing produces at 70-75mph are not capable of producing the effect you describe. You'd be hard pressed to produce that situation were you contrasting a car with a new ACR wing at full tilt vs. no wing at all, much less two different positions of the same...

    ACR wing adjustment?

C'mon guys, you're adjusting a wing, not opening the Ark of the Covenant. Tilted down = more drag and rear grip at speed, tilted up = the opposite. If you think you can even tell a difference between the two extremes of adjustment at highway-legal speeds, you're fooling yourself. For the...

    Straight Pipe Exhaust

I have straight pipes on an otherwise stock (headers and cats) SRT-10. It saves a bunch of weight, adds a bit of power, and makes it a bit cooler inside, but boy is it loud. I only drive the car with earplugs in or a helmet on. I wouldn't recommend it for a car that sees mainly street duty.

Why a new Viper over Z06/ZR1?

There's nothing wrong with the Vette's transverse composite leaf spring suspension. It's lighter and has a lower CG than a traditional coil-spring-over-shock setup. Race teams generally switch to coilovers, but that's more for ease of changing spring rates than any inherent disadvantage...

    Mamba Info

I think you have the years backwards, or at least, the black Mamba was available in '04. In addition to the red interior accents, they had different exterior badging (SRT-10 in red instead of silver, red nose badge), a little plate on the console with the series #, and a car cover.

    Went autocrossing this morning...

The Viper isn't that bad of an autocross car, on legitimate SCCA-sized courses anyway. On equal-compound tires, it can be competitive against some cars you'd think would be a lot better, like the GT3 or Elise. Z06 (C5 version especially) are competitive as well. It does help the American cars...

More ACR butt kicking....At Laguna Seca

It's a pretty quick time - when PMUM won at Laguna in '03, his quick race lap was a 1:34.2. In the time since, they have modified the track to make it a couple/few seconds quicker, depending on who you talk to. The quick SWC GT guys have dipped into the 1:29s there, though there have been...

    ACR 7.22 at the Ring.

Mero was very clearly getting much closer to 100% out of the ZR1 than Coronel was of the ACR. No question mid-teens would be possible in the ACR given a bit more time for the driver. I'd love to see Mero drive the ACR actually, though he may be a bit conflicted. Anybody that's surprised the...

Gen 4 (& 3?) sway bar end link Qs

Hey Grant, I have my stock swaybar hanging in the garage with its endlinks, so I took a couple measurements. The stock endlinks are 9.5" long overall. The threaded portion is 3/8" diameter, but the shank that goes into the bar conically increases to 1/2". The center-to-center distance for...

    Advice on track tires/rims . . .

You can run any tire you want in SCCA Solo, as long as it's not corded or otherwise "unsafe". If the tire is DOT approved you can run in Super Stock, A Street Prepared, or Street Modified 2, depending on modification level. If you are running non-DOT race slicks, you have to run in a Prepared...

    Advice on track tires/rims . . .

Only cat-back exhaust allowed in Stock, nothing between the air filters and cats can be changed. If you plan on one day competing in timed events on R-compound tires, the PSC's are your first step in that direction. They have most of the characteristics of R-tires (heat sensitivity, heat...

    Advice on track tires/rims . . .

Rich, don't you have headers on your car? If that's the case, you won't be eligible to run in Solo2 "Super Stock" class, and will be bumped to "A Street Prepared" class, where any size wheel/tire is allowed. That being the case, if it were me, I'd get something wider for the front than 18x10...

    Differentials Explained

While I don't mean to hinder the efforts of those selling their products, a couple things should be noted- A Quaife relies on *some* tractive torque from the inside driven wheel. In a car that dances over curbs, this can be a problem when the inside rear wheel is in the air, offering no...

    Differentials Explained

If you are not racing in a class that mandates the stock differential, I recommend not bothering with different fluids, and going to a proper racing diff like a Quaife or clutch-type unit. If you must make do (as I must in SCCA stock-class autocross) with the stock components, but have the...

    Differentials Explained

Doug, the SRT-10 diff is not a regular viscous, but actually more like the hydraulic unit mentioned. It does not have a sealed silicon fluid chamber, but uses the diff lubricant both as the hydraulic pump and shear fluid. While certainly not an ideal solution, I have found that it can be...

    Wider body.. wider Wheels?

A car's predilections to tramline or follow highway grooves also depend a lot of tires, alignment, and the streets you drive on. My car is dartier with its stock 275 runflats than it is with its 315 Hoosiers. Wider bodywork allows for a wider track width, which you can get with spacers or...

    Wider body.. wider Wheels?

The 345's work fine on a 14" wide rim out back. Up front, I'd go with 315's or 335's on 12's, or maybe wider still, if you don't mind losing a little turning radius.

An Open Begging Post To Srt R.e. 2009 Viper!!!!!!!!

Little mudflaps at the rear of the front wheelwells can do a lot to help and don't look too awful if they're body color. Keeping the front tires narrow and not too sticky helps too - wide R-comps on a rough/dirty surface with no mud flaps is worse case.

    2008 w/out mufflers?

Were those 2 cars Vipers? I have stock headers and cats on my '04, with no mufflers, and it is way louder than any not-deaf person would want for a car that sees any street time. I keep a box of earplugs in the center console for the rare occasion I take the car out on the street. They make a...

    Sway Bars for 2008

Hey Dan, The asymmetry you speak of from the factor is done via a left to right imbalance in the front suspension's caster settings - usually a little more positive caster in the right side. Swaybar preload is something to be completely avoided in anything but (maybe) a circle track car. It...

Are the front wheels on the ACR wider than an SRT10?

Too high a % of new Viper owners crash their cars on their way home already; if the car actually turned better, that % would only go up. They probably figure ACR owners will be a bit more skilled and/or careful.

Are the front wheels on the ACR wider than an SRT10?

I run a 315/30-18 up front which is a little pinched, will be trying 335 next. Yes, those tires would be better on wider wheels, but sometimes that's not an option. Would be nice if Dodge offered a 12" front wheel option.
