Congatulations Marty! Great numbers for a stock Gen I!
What octane are you running? How many miles on the car?
BTW - always have a jacket (leather works the best IMO), beenie, and gloves stashed in the trunk just in case.
I do not believe the Gen II cam will work in a Gen I. I have the same grind as a 96 in my Gen I, but it was made specifically for a Gen I. Valaya (my local tuner of choice) got it from Dan Cragin.
I remember her posts on the "old" board when I first got my Viper in 96. Quite witty, and able to take as well as she gave.
Terribly tragic to go at such a young age. My prayers are with her family and loved ones in this time of need.
I have always heard it said "it's not if, it's when". Head gasket design was inferior, and the new ones are supposed to be a lot better. Mine started leaking at about 30k miles. Tracks down he block from coolant. Some have lasted a LOT longer, and some have had them go sooner. The gasket kit is...
Saw one in Newport Beach CA last week. It is a badass car! It was in front of a nice restaurant right on the beach, and as I was checking it out, about 8 people came up and said "awesome" to the kit car next to it, but very few were checking out the SLR.
Looks great, Baz!
How did they come out? I had mine done in satin black, and I'm a little less than pleased with how they came out. They are OK, and most people think they look good, but definitely not perfect. I only paid something like $150 to have the valve covers and intake done though...
I know about the cones, and my local shop (Valaya Racing) tells me there are some sort of "spirals" you can put in to decrease noise and drone. I have T&D's, headers, free flow cats, and Borlas w/ full 3" side exhaust and that was pretty loud. I recently did heads and cam, and now it is...
Man - the initial bid of $24k is under $35 a square foot. I had a hard time finding people that do carports (as in, just a roof with no walls) for much less than that, and the floor is already there! Does this include concrete, or are you using the existing slab?
Good luck with your project...
Collin,
SCD Body Shop (used to be Stevens Creek Dodge Body Shop) is great with Vipers. I have had very good luck with them, and I highly recommend them. They always have a few of them in the shop, so you can see their work on Vipers (and many other high end cars) first hand.
Ask for Bill Tiernan...
King poser now has a blower too, huh? Pose and goes!
I am interested to hear dyno results, and see more pics when you get it cleaned up. I think the [HeWhoShallNotBeNamed] wing looks good on it!
3.07 is the stock rear gear ratio.
3.5X will "wake the car up" and feel like a nice addition of HP. You will get worse gas mileage (or at least I did/do) with the gear change. Great bang for the buck upgrade.
Re: Kumho V700 rears = best performance mod on my car so far. Amazing tires
Let's check out the wheels, gascap, and engine compartment....
Pics or ban! ;-)
PS: I think you'll like the rear gear change.
