My Garage project begins...

Hello all,
Well, some of you may know I have mentioned that I was planning a new garage when I was in on the Revolution lift group buy.
The day has finally arrived....The demolition crew showed up today to start the tear down process. yippee!!
The plans call for a 28 x 25 footprint with a 12 ft high ceiling.
I am leaning toward "Race deck" circle trac flooring, slot walls and so on.
Any ideas from you all would be helpful.....Money IS an object, I am hoping to keep this under $35k (The bid to build it right now is $24k but I know I will be adding things as we go....)
BTW: This post is Viper related because that's where the snake will live when its done

Man - the initial bid of $24k is under $35 a square foot. I had a hard time finding people that do carports (as in, just a roof with no walls) for much less than that, and the floor is already there! Does this include concrete, or are you using the existing slab?

You are all making me feel good.
Ya, the bid includes adding to the existing slab,
(was 18x20) electrical (basic) stucco, roofing.
It doesnt include lights, drywall, ect....
Its basically the slab, 4 walls, roof, stucco, basic elect.
Hope it goes ok....wish me luck...

Any ideas on what flooring, walls ...so on ??

Oh ya I forgot....Does anyone know where I can get a pic or graphic of the Chrysler pentagon ....I want to have the vent that goes on the side of the garage made in that shape.

For your chrysler pic of the "STAR" you can go to YEARONE.COM as they sell these.

a few wish lists for a garage.
1. built in air line plumbing with compressor OUTSIDE
2. INGOUND lights pointing upward under the lift.
3. stereo prewire
4. cable tv prewire.
5. display area for trophies/models etc.
6. space for fridge
7. insulated garage doors/AC/heat
Of course it is easy to spend others $$.

I'm jealous! My qoute is more like $110.86 per square foot and that was one of the lower bids. You might want to use sissor trusses as that will give you more height inside and do not cost any more. Also if you are using the casters on your lift make sure you get at least an 8 foot door so you can move it outside. There have been alot of posts here on garages, alot of good info.

Well the garage is half gone now, I had to go diving in the pool last nite for stucco chunks ....it should be completely torn down by Friday.

If this is the stuff you see the pros lay down when they have to set up under their canopies, you might want to think about it. The open grid becomes a dirt trap and the only way to keep things clean is to pull it all up occasionally.

My race shop is set up with an epoxy coated floor. Very durable and easy to clean with a wet mop. However, the rubber flooring certainly is easy on the knees and legs if you are going to spend a lot of time wrenching.

BTW, great price on the garage.

Race deck makes a couple different styles of flooring...I think I know of the type you are talking about, it has holes or slots in the tiles....The "Circle trac" style is solid...the only way I can see dirt getting through if it can get in the cracks between the tiles. The reason I am going with Race deck is the existing slab I am adding on to isnt in the best shape...50 years old, so I was worried about the epoxy sticking to it...

Here are some quick tips on how to use the Viper Club of America Image
Gallery. It is important to remember that you MUST be logged in to
the Gallery in order to upload images. Currently the username
database for the Gallery is not shared with that of the Discussion
Forums, so it might be necessary to register separately for the
Gallery. If this is the case, simply register for the Gallery with
the same info you use on the Forums (at some point we will be merging
the two databases and this will make it easier for all of us). Go
here:

And either LOGIN, or REGISTER. Once you have done this you will see
up near the top right the option to UPLOAD PHOTOS. Click on that link
and follow the steps to upload your images into your personal folder,
or pick another area you want them displayed by choosing a CATEGORY.
Please note that the limit for each image is currently 200K.

Once the image is uploaded, view the image to make sure it was
uploaded OK. If it was relatively large you MIGHT see different
variations on the "Filesize" line, just above "Keywords" and
"Descriptions", listed UNDER the image. Ideally, you want to select
an image around 60K in size and 640x480 in dimension (for display on
the Forums).

For me, the easiest way to ensure I have the right image, I RIGHT
CLICK on the image and select "Properties". A box appears and it
tells you the file size as well as the dimensions. In that same box
it shows the "Address" (or URL). Highlight and copy that URL
by RIGHT clicking on the highlighted URL and selecting "Copy".

Now, all you have to do to post that image on the Forums is, while
composing your message, include the URL between the image tags, like
so:

Now, preview your post to make sure the image appears. If you run

If your married,set up a bathroom and cot.
I did the HOME'DEPOT two part Epoxy,its great,and cost less than $100.to do.
The beauty of it is, you can Race Deck over if you had a problem.

That's a good idea regarding the floor. I was worried the epoxy wouldnt come out right since most of the slab is 50 years old, but gambling with just 100 bucks might be worht it, then if it starts peeling or looks crappy....buy race deck......I will have to think about that one.

I tried the Epoxy and waited the 7 good hot days to full cure(hugely critical)and the Sheet is perfect.
I suggest using half of the fancy sprinkles,otherwise finding a screw might take forever.

I have just finished my house and hope to do the garage as soon as I get a bit of dough saved up. Having looked at all my friend's setups, including my son's epoxy coated garage, I will spend every hard earned dime on a Race Deck floor. The CEO is an avid DC holic, has one mean Snake, along with a Chrysler 300 SRT8, some land speed record cars running SRT4 Turbos, and more importantly give VCA members a solid discount with superlative service. Am I a bit biased, sure, as I was swayed years ago by all the dramatic pictures of guys finished floors and cool patterns. I know that one buddy just did his with the new 18 inch blocks, and that just gives you more design capabilities. Good luck with your project and check it out.

I didnt realize the Race Deck company was so "Mopar Friendly" and offered VCA member discounts.....Looking more like Race Deck for me
I was on thier website a few weeks back and was chatting with someone there who sent me a sample and had the "local" distributor contact me...
I havent talked too much about price because I dont have exact quantities needed yet (this depends on the final layout of cabinets and so on) but what is a good price??? (square foot) And how much VCA discount is given??
