hmmm, sounds familiar. I'm in the process of doing the same.
bolting up the half shafts and drive shaft is straight forward, nothing cosmic. locktite the bolt.
check your half shafts before reinstalling, make sure they extend and contract easily. if not they need to be replaced, get a set...
yeah, green shirt, that's me. I'm the guy that doesn't look like a teenager...
I know I'm still young, but nothing shows you how much you've aged like standing next to teenagers.
one thing of note, they thought it was cool I had my iPod in the car.
A few weeks ago a colleague stopped me in the hall and asked if I would drive my car to his house for his son's 15th birthday. He was hoping I'd show the guys around the car and then give his son a ride.
My first question was, "Does he know cars?"
He assured me is son was an "enthusiast"...
not yet, haven't found a good way to attack it. The problem is it can only slide out one direction because there is a metal flange on one side of the metal sleeve. This covers a significant portion of the surface of the aluminum truss that you would use to press against (I'll snap another...
received my half shafts yesterday and man are they nice. they do, in fact, extend and retract easily with little effort. I'm sure they will make a huge difference in the way the car behaves...
love my RT/10, glad I have it over a GTS. it would get stuffy in the mountains on a summer day in a GTS, the RT/10 is awesome. the RT/10 also looks better because it looks much lower/flatter than the GTS...
always tell people the year of your car, that's helps sometimes. I see from the previous post its a '98 GTS.
what viscosity oil did you think you were using? if its was cold and your oil was very viscous it could have caused this problem. make sure you use the right oil and quality stuff...
has anyone successfully replaced the differential mount bushings? I have a new set and would like to install them in my diff cover before reinstalling it on the car.
here's a pic of the a new on and the old one installed. the contact is metal to metal (metal sleeve around the outside of the...
I have the drive shaft off the car and plan to replace the U-joints. I have the snap rings out but the caps are in there pretty solid and I can't seem to break them loose. Is there any trick to getting them out or do I need to have them pressed out by a hydraulic press?
I mounted velcro to my dash for my iPod. I took the velcro section I wanted to fix to the dash and traced it onto the dash. I then removed the paint on the dash within this box. I used 5-minute epoxy and applied a small amount to the back of the velcro and pressed it in place. It has been...
thanks for the tip, I figure I'll let the case sit in the sun for a few hours before doing that.
Also, is replacing the bearing as easy as using a puller to remove it and then pressing the new one on?
Joe: thanks for the input, I thought that was a casting thing because it didn't look damaged, just weird.
Jack: basically sounds like safety wiring the bolts
I think I'm going to replace that bearing and the bolts and I'll be back in business.
okay, got the assembly out of the case and more bad news: I found some metal shavings in the bearing on the back side of the ring gear and a gouge in the case on the same side (likely source of the shavings). I also noticed a funny opening in the housing one the opposite side near where the...
bearing caps and axle yokes are off and out, but the carrier assembly won't slide out of the case. do I need to just let it sit in the sun for a while tomorrow or something?
Good point about getting all new ring gear bolts. I wonder if the local shop would have those since Dana 44's aren't just for VIPERs? Were you suggesting that I replace the cover bolts and cap bolts also or just providing the torque specs?
It looks simple to break apart, just remove the clips...
So I bought a used differential. I have mine off the car and before I installed this one I opened the case to inspect everything. Good thing I did because I found a broken ring gear bolt (see pics below). I found the bolt on the side of the case and it appears it did not damage anything else...
did they just mean starter module as in the starter itself?
call Chuck Tator (tatorsdodge.com). if you have the VIN he can give you the history, including maintenance.
Re: Are gen1 & 2 diff\'s the same? Anyone have one?
I have both in my garage. They are the same, but the Gen I's don't have the vent. That's the only difference I can see.
I'll snap pictures this weekend.
