Gilles says on After Hours, that the Viper R will race four (4) times this year and then a full schedule next year. I'm taking that to mean the last four (4) races of this year's ALM series. You'll get to see the R on the track and perhaps the road car at the Viper Corals at those events?
The announcement says that the Viper R trans will be moved to the rear and sourced to Xtrac. That is the only Xtrac trans shown that would do the trick for the Viper. If you read the Xtrac material you'll find that it is the trans used on a lot of GT cars including the racing version of the...

At other places on their site, they talk about a near instantious gear change which speculation says requires electronic control of the engine. ;)
These thoughts are IMHO but based on what Gilles has said in various places. He states that Chrysler has learned from Ferrari how to build small numbers of a model in a profitable manner.
Future models?
A convertable has already been promised. Gilles said that it was designed into the...
I'm very glad that you're able to satisfy your needs from the used Viper market.
However let me assure you that pulling a mold for a fiber glass body does not require millions or even thousands of dollars. There are many boat shops around that will galdly accomodate your for a lot less...
What if SRT licensed someone to build a continuation series of past Vipers or an update version of past Vipers? That car would be delivered without engine or trans and thereby avoid all the government rules. The buyer could buy a crate engine and trans from SRT, or anyone for that matter, put it...
Here's the chreeleader test: How will a bus load of California cheer leaders respond to seeing a red drop top model, top down, parked along side the road as the bus goes past? ;) Remember the urban legend from long ago about that test result on an earlier generation Viper?
On a serious note...
Edmunds Inside Line has a couple of shots of the front end showing the single vents hood in some detail. Someone did some serious aero work on the shape of those for pulling the air out and channeling the air after wards.
As for underhood heat, I wonder what impact the rerouting of the...
Somewhere in the Chrysler literature or one of the interviews or the news media, I came to understand that the engine covers are for sound deadening. By the way, I don't know if removing them would impact the uderhood air flow, either positive or negative.
In 1991 Carroll Shelby drove the prototype Viper as a pace car at the Indy 500. Chrysler was going to use a Mitsubishis until the UAW stepped in with LOUD complaints.
Shelby: "So I drove it for 30 days, taking everyone for rides around Indianapolis (in the prototype Viper)" (from Carroll...

"Ferrari Boss Left “Speechless” After Seeing The New SRT Viper
Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the current chairman of Ferrari and one of the key men responsible for turning the Italian sports car manufacturer into a global automotive powerhouse, was left “speechless”...
IMO, not so. The "standard" Viper with the more agressive six (6) vent hood, black interior and Track Package is intended to meet the current Viper demographic. Remember all the government required electronics can be shut off, with the exception of the braking package. For example, if you hold...
Facinating dialog by the engineer. Development money well spent by the Viper engine team. Apparently a much more responsive engine that will offer better durability for bolt on mods. ;)
Not better milage but the introduction of DI. Gilles let the cat out of the bag when he said at the intro that the Viper couldn't have a better power to weight ratio than the Ferrari. So to make the best of that, I thought, trade off the efficiency from DI for gas milage. THEN let the after...
PJ454 - I never asked for an electronic control on the trans. Neither the Vett with its forward mounted trans or the Ford GT with a true trans axel use electronic controls. They both are manual shifting boxes.
Nor did I ever say anything about paddle shifting. Gilles is the one who said he...
According to the draft specs, you can get the six (6) vent hood which is standard on the base car as an option on the SRT version. So, both cars can be had with the bigger venting. The actual specs for the aero advantage of one hood over the other have not ben measured yet, accordilg to SRT.
No joke. Let's take it one at a time.
According to Gilles, the show cars sits lower than the street car will. Again, according to him, it will not sit as high as the yellow Viper shown on several threads. Further, Gilles says the aero testing is not finished although most of it is centered on...
First, I wish the trans had been moved to the rear. Either by using GMs approach of modifying a four wheel drive trans and mounting it in front of the rear axel or the Ford GT approach of using a true trans axel. Either would help the weight distribution and foot well space.
Second, I wish...
The Chrysler Electronic Communications video

says 12 Vipers per day.
If we use 220 work days a year as an approximation we're talking 2640 Vipers per year. ;)
