Anyone else think this smells like Gen V?

It's kinda funny. While I agree with most people that I want to see something more aggressive and 'scary' (instead of sexy) than a basic 599 GTO makeover in the Gen V, it's a little bit compelling to see how close we can get to a next generation car with something 'off the shelf' and already...

    Wrecked Vipers

If the damage isn't 'too bad' you can sometimes argue with them enough that they agree to fix the car and not total it out. It's not a fun process, though. In one case, someone I know got into an accident with an older (but in perfect condition) BMW 7 series and since the value was deemed low...

    Viper/Porsche GT3-RS/Ferrari

Glad to see mega-buck Porsches are coming out with obnoxious paint schemes and big ricer wings. I was starting to feel like my ACR was already out of style :)

Someone should be sending you and ViperCollector a check for design services :)

Anyone else think this smells like Gen V?

You know, that's actually not too bad looking. Interesting what a little photoshop will do to a $500k Ferrari :) I was comparing the dimensions of the 599 GTO to the Gen IV cars, and other than the height, they're surprisingly similar. I don't think it would be totally out of the question...

Anyone else think this smells like Gen V?

It is - I got a kick out of that. I'd like to see it with the Viper air scoop photoshopped onto the hood :)

Anyone else think this smells like Gen V?

I agree - this is about the only Ferrari that I've seen (since the 308/328 series) that I felt like I just have to get. It invokes the same kinds of feelings I had when I first saw the Gen I and Gen II Vipers. Just an awesome looking car, with performance to match.

Anyone else think this smells like Gen V?

I've been following the Ferrari 599 GTO, and I can't help but look at it and see hints of Viper in it... If this had come out a year from now, I would have thought that there were some styling cues being built into the platform that would also be used in the Gen V - but at this point I'm pretty...

Anybody know if I can title a new car without paying taxes?

One thing that's scary about Sales Tax and Use Tax in many states is that there's no built-in statute of limitations on them. A lot of people out there who do all their buying online are really worried that one day, their state might find a way to dig into those customer databases, figure out...

Anybody know if I can title a new car without paying taxes?

I don't know the specifics of IL taxation laws, but in most states that have a sales tax, you owe it (or use tax) on ANYTHING you buy out of state. An out of state seller is not required to collect the sales tax from you if they don't have a physical presence in your state, but you are required...

    Thank you Randall!

You know, you could use an online fax service like www.j2.com :) I'm constantly traveling and I often need to receive and send faxes from the road, and that service really kicks butt. It's cheap, too. They don't send care packages, though - just bills.

Whats better Belanger headers or ACRX headers?

Re: Whats better Balanger headers or ACRX headers? When asked about what the SRT team did to prep the car for the record, they said that they just did some suspension adjustments and then "drove it onto the truck". I always took that to mean that it was a completely stock car. I know that...

    Race gas?

I'm sure you already know this, but even two or three tanks of leaded race gas will kill your cats, and once they're dead, they can plug up pretty quick (assuming you cats are still installed). The O2 sensors will also eventually get messed up from the leaded race gas, which can lead to all...

Might be buying a B/W GTS this week!

You should put a 'wanted' add in the classifieds - because this post is likely to disappear soon... Just an FYI and don't feel wronged when it happens - rules are rules and it's nothing personal...

So these complicated electronics in Gen 4s...

The electronics on the Gen IV cars are a bit of a challenge, but the bottleneck in these engines is that they're pretty close to maxed out at 600 HP from a durability standpoint. With a Mopar PCM, and a few bolt-ons, you're probably good for 650-670 HP, and after that you really need to start...

So do GTS's get more attention than SRT's?

I kind of like to fly under the radar most of the time - and these cars definitely aren't well suited to that. Any Viper is going to attract attention, and I got used to it with the GTS. The attention wasn't the bad kind, though - that car seems to get the same kind of appreciative (and...

Increase Rev Limiter or not? If yes, to what point

I shy away from messing with the rev limiter - they put those limits in place for a reason, and unless you've done a really good balance job to the engine, decreased the rotating mass items, and installed a better valve-train, you could be asking for problems. The forces on those engine parts...

    Winning noise

If he's hearing that noise through that narrow of a speed range, what's probably happening is he's hitting on a frequency that's resonant to some part of the car due to either an imbalanced driveshaft (bad U-Joint probably) or rear-end gear noise. It could either be the U-Joints starting to go...

    Winning noise

He's hearing a "winning noise"? He should enter the VCA raffle - maybe his car is telling him something :) Sorry, couldn't resist... The Gen I and Gen II cars often had noisy rear ends, and if the rear-end was rebuilt, they may not have set it up perfectly. My GTS made some noise from the...

    An SRT less

The Germans and Swiss are smart when they engineer things. Those guardrails were specifically designed to allow the car to crash and not destroy the expensive hood of exotics that frequent the roads there :)

    Fuel Injector cleaning mishap

Make sure they let you keep the original sills. They're EXPENSIVE and I'll bet they aren't totally toasted. You could probably repair them - or sell them for a decent price even if they're damaged.

which sparkplugs do you like best?

Is that 116 octane lead free? If not, watch out for your O2 sensors. Around here the best unleaded we can get is 100 octane and the 116 stuff is not newer-car friendly at all.

    high idle help

All of those bad gaskets should have been replaced by now - that was a big deal back then. The gaskets would shrink and warp and you'd get all kinds of problems, and virtually all of the cars got brought in for fixes. At a 1250 RPM idle, you'll probably not pass the test. They'll run an idle...
