One thing that should be taken into consideration is a rather unpleasant political situation within Chrysler right now. Things are getting rather acrimonious between all the top players (Fiat wants to buy more stock, Fiat is having internal troubles, Chrysler wants to IPO with bizarre terms...
If you're running a computer with a recent upgrade of IE, it doesn't play nice with this forum... I have the same issue - and what's needed is to click the "compatibility view" button in the browser. That should make it play nice again.
At least it worked for me just now :)
Just a few months ago, an orange ACR went for about $125k at the Palm Beach auction. I think a lot of it has to do with rarity of the car - the ones that were rare seem to go for big bucks. It is the end of the summer, though, so this isn't the best time to sell a summer car...
Kinda my thoughts, too. When the original RT/10 came out, it was completely unique and shook the world. Then, when the GTS came out, it did the same thing all over again. The next big news was the Gen IV ACR - all of a sudden the media went nuts over it. Now, we need an absolutely insane car to...
I'm with you on the upgrades to make the car what we want... I just learned (the hard way) and when things go bad, those upgrades are virtually worthless (even though I had them documented and they were brand new, insurance company depreciated them by over 85% on the grounds that a "potential...
I tend to agree - and the current price of the base car isn't unreasonable when you look at what you get for the money. Where the perception issue comes into play is when people look at the "typical optioned" cars out there today. A bare-bones (which I like) car can be had for around $100k...
I think the biggest problem with bumping up the price is that it goes against the original spirit of the car. Vipers have always been incredible cars with relatively affordable prices (despite what the non-Viper world thinks about what the owners paid). Even though there are a lot of...
I've had Geico for years, and I always wondered how they'd be if I ever had a claim (never had a claim over the last 30 years). Well, I hit a deer and then crashed with my ACR this summer, and they've been reasonable to deal with. I'm going through some valuation issues with them - my car was...
They're not DOT rated, so technically not street legal. But, that's one of those things where I doubt there would ever be an issue - the car itself is so distracting that nobody is going to zero in on the tires... Just never drive in the rain with them - that would be scary.
To be honest, if the Gen V ACR can't beat the Porsche 918, it wouldn't keep me from buying it. I'm not going to make any money from winning races on the track, and I want something that I have fun with - at a reasonable price. If I crash a 918, that's like crashing a mansion. If I crash a Gen...
I've heard there are a few unsold ones out there, and when you look at what makes up these cars, they're a really good deal. I like the fact that they've got the basic interior, and the "ACR-like" suspension. The aero pieces are tasteful, and look good on all three colors (I like the orange the...
For that kind of money, I'd probably just keep it and drive it - the fun value is worth more... or, turn it into a track car. These cars will live well beyond 150,000 miles if driven regularly and not beat on. Lots of people are afraid of high-mileage Vipers because they think they've been...
That's what I'll be sticking on my Gen V ACR when I get it :) I really like the Sidewinder II wheels - they have that semi-BBS look to them and they look to be really well machined. I'm curious about what the Sidewinder III wheels are going to look like, but I can't imagine that they can make...
Not sure where in the Bay Area you're exactly at, but you might want to have a chat with the guys at Normandin in San Jose. Paul Normandin is a VCA member, and from what I've seen, he's making the investment to be a top notch Viper dealer. His team can likely answer all of your questions, and...
I wonder why they did that... At least on the Gen II GTS they had a secondary "emergency exit" pull tab that you could reach from inside the hatch. I guess it's one more reason to keep a battery tender on the car during the winter :)
Re: Reached the tipping point: the stock 2013 exhaust interior dB level is unacceptab
It's kind of always been an issue... I had a friend who bought one of the Gen II GTS-R cars, and the white side sills completely cooked up and turned yellow around the cats. He wasn't happy...
Some people...
Re: Reached the tipping point: the stock 2013 exhaust interior dB level is unacceptab
I would think dropping 3.07 gears in the car would be a no-brainer. Dude, going 264 MPH in 6th gear is way cooler than going 228 MPH! :)
Exactly - and considering the Gen IV ACR was an absolute rocket on the track, I'd think the Gen V would be an even better platform as it's superior in many respects. The Gen IV was even pretty docile and drama-free on the street - other than me constantly being worried about hitting the front...
Agreed on the transmission - I think the only time I used sixth gear was when I was driving 600 miles in one day through the desert and I wanted to save gas. The TR 6070 is a stout transmission, though, and doesn't weigh much more than the TR 6060 - so I wouldn't really care one way or another...
Any reason you didn't swap out the rear one, too? I don't know how substantial the difference in them is, but I'd think that it would help keep the car more neutral in turns. I remember back in the day when I swapped out the front swaybar on my old Trans Am for a big one and didn't do the...
Re: Reached the tipping point: the stock 2013 exhaust interior dB level is unacceptab
I'm curious about hearing the exhaust in a Gen V in the "drone zone". My Gen II has a resonant drone at around the RPM I'd be driving on the highway, so I just go into a different gear to make it go away. It...
I have a few friends with mega buck cars, and I'm not sure the dealer experience is comparable. Not to say that there's anything wrong with Dodge dealers - but they aren't supported by the manufacturer the way Ferrari and Lambo dealerships are. Something goes wrong with one of those cars while...
I just know from experience that weird things can happen with new cars these days. In days of past, I would have no problem with a dealer 80 miles away because I'd generally do all the small stuff myself. But, nowadays, if I'm paying $140k for a car and I need warranty work done on it because...
I think the problem may be getting service after the car is bought... 80 miles is a long way to go for service - that can eat up several days of time just to get something simple done, and when you consider the cost of being away from work to do that, it's just not an option for some people.
That's a bummer - I know that the Gen V has some complexities to it that require a dealer to send their techs to specialized training. I've talked to a few dealers who weren't willing to do that yet, but hopefully as the car starts to get out there in more volume, those dealerships will make...
