There is a HUGE difference.
The 8 speed is NOT suitable for the Viper. It's the typical auto trans with big RWHP loss. Putting that into a Viper would be a disgrace and I'm sure most people with knowledge of these transmissions would agree. The only "automatic" option would be the dual clutch...
Well I got one! Went to a different Helfman, the River Oaks location, just to check out a color (Billet Silver) and ended up walking out with it. Got $500 under invoice. Otherwise I was headed to see Bernie.
Thanks for the advice on Tomball. MSRP with the options I want is $68,375. I've already found one for $64,700. I'm hoping to get one for a grand or two under invoice. It could be wishful thinking but we'll have to see...
Well I finally saw a Gen V up close at Helfman in Houston. They have a loaded Blue/Silver Stripe GTS with the track package. It also has a $10,000 "market adjustment". I went in with plans to finally order the '14 SRT Jeep if we could agree upon price. Needless to say the market adjustment...
Ditch the wheel lipstick and take it down to 19/20s and you'll be great. I honestly still prefer 18/19s for a performance car. I'm not into the rapper/hotwheels look.
This post is intended to clear up some common misconceptions. All flappy paddles are not created equal. Correct me if I am wrong, but there is a huge disparity between the various "paddle" transmissions. If the "paddles" in a performance car don't significantly shave off acceleration numbers...
They need to wise up and do away with the SRT model. Just a GTS and then create options. Much smarter IMO than trying to have two tiers of standard Vipers. Imagine all of the money they can save on badges!
I'm pretty sure the GTS-R is 82" wide. At least I read that in a couple of places..and aren't the GTS-R and GT3-R the same width? Also, if you look at the front of the GT3-R the street car doesn't have to be that wide to look nasty. They back is where it really needs it. You can shave a couple...
I completely understand what you are saying. This is not what I want to see nor do I necessarily think it's a good idea. This is a simple prediction based on what has already transpired. If there wasn't a TA model I'd say different. But if the ACR truly is going to be "extreme" as Ralph has...
I think ACR, if extreme and wider, will come in around $160-175k. Simply because the TA edition bridged the gap for people looking to road course on a "budget". Offer a wing down the line and your good to go. Save the ACR for the big leagues. The biggest mistake SRT ever made was showing the two...
Can't compare them. Anywhere near $150k is ridiculous for a non-turbo Porsche (not including track models). There is a reason they are one of the most, if not the most, profitable car companies. Only option IMO is a New Turbo (not S) which should be in the same price range if you don't go crazy...
If it's an ACR like the previous with some aero, brake goodies, and suspension slapped on I think it would be a huge slap in the face to wait a few years to release it. Sure they need wind tunnel testing but with the GTS-R experience I'm hoping they have a head start.
The only reason to delay...
My werd. Showing it in that color scheme makes me see ACR. Keep the rear the same and narrow the front a couple of inches and you will have the ultimate American exotic.
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but many Chrysler execs credit the original Viper as the sole reason for getting Dodge back from the chopping block. The Viper was the ultimate Halo car for dodge, which is why they sold them for break even or maybe sometimes a loss.
Unless you want a $175k Viper convertible I'd settle for a manual top. IMHO a targa roof is the best option with a creative way to store the top in car. Lambo got it right with their roadster. The coupe rear end looks goofy on a convertible. It's a design error. The vert needs a unique rear
Nor should there be. The Viper's MO is massive displacement naturally aspirated. There are plenty of people anxious to drop big money making 1000+ HP Gen V Vipers. If SRT doesn't support this then these people will continue spending that coin on GTRs, Corvettes, and Gallardos.
