What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

It would be convenient from a sales and advertising perspective to know what a person wants based solely on the car's sale price, but there's a lot more to it. The type of vehicle matters too - you can spend over $100K on a 7 series BMW - don't you think someone buying that 7 series has...

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

The Gen 4 had one out of three key factors for a car at the $100K level - performance. It was heavily lacking in terms of fit-and-finish as well a styling. The Gen 5 has performance, style and finish nailed down and is easily comparable to other cars in the $100K-$200K range. It can be a daily...

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

Despite the lack of "technological features" the Viper manages to outperform most cars pitted against it on the track. Off the track you have very unique and distinctive styling and enough modern tech for the car to be viable as something driven daily. Its "primitive" pushrod engine also happens...

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

I think a Corvette has the same lack of exclusivity issue that you get with a Porsche - the high end $120K+ model looks a lot like the $40K base models so they need to tout their car's production number or simply resort to making jokes so they can tamp down that buyers' remorse. Doesn't bother...

It's getting harder to maintain my enthusiasm...

If my goal was to establish and differentiate SRT as its own brand, I would incentivize dealers to make that investment in return for preferential treatment with allocations, holdback perks to boost revenues and stuff like that. I think SRT dealers themselves would need to hire and train...

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

Disgruntled porshe owners trying to bring the viper down to their level. Like I said, the clown shoe similarities are a stretch. I'm not seeing it. To me the side profile of the viper looks like a sexy chick with long hair wearing a baseball cap with the visor backwards. They already had...

It's getting harder to maintain my enthusiasm...

Car dealers are independently owned and operated - the dealer is the one who would have to put up the capital to open an SRT dealership so it could very well be done. SRT probably should have their SRT dealers start branching out if they are serious about having SRT be its own brand.

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

Ehh that's a stretch. Besides, there is no SUV or family sedan that looks like a viper.

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

When I see a porshe from the side, the very first thought that comes into my mind is "a shoe with wheels", especially the boxter. Not so with the viper. If it does bear resemblance to a shoe, it's a nice-looking shoe.

What makes the Gen5 worth $100K?

I beg to disagree. The turbo porshe may do better "stock" and even provide some better numbers if you are able to dial up the boost on the turbos with an EBC, but there's a limit to how high you can crank that boost before you're either out of CFM on the turbo or running into detonation on pump...

So who plans on modding their GenV's

I'd probably go with a carbon x-brace if it becomes available, a lighter battery, probably headers and exhaust at some point. Would rather focus on becoming really good at driving and handling the car before upping its power. Can anyone comment on the "clear bra"? I like the idea of...

    Opinions on red interiors

I went with red so I can be unique just like everyone else. :) Actually I like it, and the main reason is that most cars have a boring neutral interior color and since the viper is my "fun" car I'd rather have a fun color inside it. I also heard from some honda guys that red seatbelts add 50 HP.

Carbon ceramic brakes for the Gen V

Agree with most of what you said, but you can always make the mechanical upgrades aftermarket. The stryker red option is something you can only get from the factory and since the viper is a toy you might as well look your best while driving it.

It's getting harder to maintain my enthusiasm...

His comments could have been paraphrased as "the car scared me" and that's not exactly news. It would make sense that a corvette is a bit more "polished" since it has been on the market for many years and has an R&D department funded by US tax dollars. The viper didn't exactly lose. The margin...

    Friends & Family Price: $285,440

Dealers are independently owned and operated, and as far as pricing goes, can charge whatever they feel like because the pricing from SRT is a suggested price. Does anyone actually think a buyer is going to walk in there and plop down nearly $300K for a Viper?

Carbon ceramic brakes for the Gen V

I don't think explosions are as big of a potential issue as are their physical characteristics. The combination of ceramic rotors and pads causes them to "glaze" over if they do not reach a certain temperature during their use, which would cause them to perform worse than carbon pads and steel...

Sat inside the new 2013...DAMN IT !! NO ROOM compared to my gen2

He claims he cannot comfortably fit inside a Gen 5 and says a Gen 2 is OK, implying that there is a problem with the Gen 5 being "too small". Is the car too small or is he just too big? Valid question; not an attack. Should SRT offer a special GTS-W edition with extra width? Maybe get rid of the...

LE #003 With Carbon Fiber Exterior Package

He did not make any claims about who he is (or isn't). It was another poster who suggested I should know who that is, and I don't...my point being that I'm not going to investigate every member on here to determine the legitimacy of their posts. I'll stick to what has worked for me - if it...

Carbon ceramic brakes for the Gen V

Surprised and disappointed that carbon ceramic rotors and pads were not included as part of the track pack. Don't forget the added benefit of the carbon rotor being a lot lighter than the steel counterpart. Seems like it would be a no-brainer to shave off a few extra lbs of unsprung weight while...

    11.1@ 127 Pretty strong!

I think a 15% gain in peak power/tq over stock is a realistic expectation for NA, though there would be some loss of torque and the powerband would shift from low-mid to mid-high. SRT was gracious enough to provide a built engine with mostly forged internals so you will not need to worry about...

    11.1@ 127 Pretty strong!

They probably could have hit 750 bhp without increasing fuel consumption and therefore avoiding the "gas guzzler" tax altogether...but even if they couldn't, the Viper is already a thin margin car and offering a "base" engine with 640 HP and an upgraded version with 750 HP would be difficult if...

LE #003 With Carbon Fiber Exterior Package

Doesn't seem like AM/FM reception really justifies nearly 200 miles on an unsold car...but whatever. Who is seeking a debate? I simply asked if you had any documentation to support your story. It's pretty much a yes or no deal...and it sounds like the answer is no. No, I'm not going to...

LE #003 With Carbon Fiber Exterior Package

That's a good story, although I have no way of knowing if it's anything more than a story or a factual recount of events. Since you seem to have some kind of inside info, let me ask you this: If a production car is being taken out for testing isn't there some kind of logbook that needs to be...

LE #003 With Carbon Fiber Exterior Package

Must have touched a nerve if your first response is bringing up post counts. Aye, top sports car...not supercar...and that's still someones opinion. The hyundai genesis is also a sports car...and someone may hold the opinion that it is among the top sports cars. Neither will be mistaken for...

LE #003 With Carbon Fiber Exterior Package

Their pricing is inline with the market, perhaps even a relative bargain if you consider that the Viper is essentially hand-built and not mass-produced on a production like like its nearest competitor, the ZR-1. The parts it has that it shares with other Dodge vehicles are not critical parts...
