Hi all, I want to upsize the tires on the Gen2 rims to get a little bit more meat and Lower the car so i dont run into huge clearance issues.

I got gen2 rims for my gen 1 and these tire sizes just arent popular as everything is 19-21 these days for this width.

thanks for your time

I am selling multiple sets of rims and tires. But if you just want a cheap set of Gen 5 wheels, I have a set of 5 spokes. New, and newly powder coated.

You can't put 21" tires on 18" in wheels lol

not sure what youre asking here.

you want bigger tires but want to lower the car?

Because of availability issues and because id like to get a meatier tire on my gen2 rims if anyone has experience putting a for reference 275-40-18 instead of the 275-35-18 or 285 etc .

Im new to the brand so i dont even know where to go for this info.

Which tire brands sre most available for the gen2 5 spoke rims or is it necessary to upside to the gen3-4 rims specifically for the better tire choices.

Thanks

JonB at viper rack can probably get you the tires you need.

here's a calculator you can use to compare the actual difference in sizes. I would not suggest "thicker" tires.

I think I understand and have had the same issue as you. I picked up a 99 with aftermarket wheels and replaced his 9-11 year old tires with new, but didn't realize that previous owner messed up and they should be staggered in height as well. As an example, a 99's oem sizes are front: 275/35R18 and rear: 335/30R18. I have 285/35/18 and run 335/30/18 rears. The issue is they are the same height and thus the rear looks small in comparison and the rake is gone. (pic attached)

In a perfect world I'd have 345/30/18 or 335/35/18, but the only option for sale I've seen above a 335/30/18 is a 345/35/18 drag radial, and while it can look great lowered, I don't want that much meat or drag radials for the street.

I recommend using tiresizedotcom's tire calculator to figure out the height differences before you buy. Ultimately I ended up ordering a custom vt forged 19" set arriving in May, and will go with 295/30, 355/30 sizes closer to how the gen 5's setups are, but with my front still taller. This will allow me to go lower on the coilovers and shave the gap between the tire and top of fender becoming visually lower, but with the car overall still sitting higher than oem sizes.

JonB at PartsRack.com knows the tire/wheel fitment intricacies of all gens in & out. Just tell him what wheels you want to use and listen to him carefully. He will guide you in the right direction the first time, and get you the best pricing anywhere.
