Purdue,
You need to be much more specific about your application if you hope to get the best advice.
What year Viper (ABS)?
Track only or street too?
Same pads for street and track; do you mind squealing brakes on the street?
Stock tires, DOT (R compound) or slicks?
Where do you run; high...
I'm open to just about anywhere, just let's ensure it doesn't conflict with a Viper racing event. I realize the racing schedules are out of Dodge's control, but it would have have been nice to see the CC's at VOI.
Buy the Gen 3, enjoy it, wait until they they work the bugs out of the Gen4, then buy the Gen4.
The Gen3 is a vastly improved car over the 1996 and it sounds like you would appreciate the improvements (some of us still like the ergonomically challenged clown shoe).
Yes, I use anti-sieze (not grease, not WD-40)
Yes, I run the impact real slow (hand speed)
Sorry, I figured whoever was considering changing springs was already aware of the usual precautions.
That hydraulic compressor probably won't work on a Viper (5" minimum spring diameter).
I purchased this manual compressor from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=43753 I needed to cut down the hooks about 1/4" to make them fit between the Viper's...
Re: Check out this cool asian mountain test of a 92\'
I was taught "double clutching" on a formula ford (non-synchro). It was used only for down shifting and consisted of:
push in the clutch
shift into neutral
release the clutch
Blip the throttle
push in the clutch (the double in double...
Does anybody know if Zero Shift ever installed their mechanism in a Viper?
I recall someone from the company posting here and stating they were going to use Nadine's car for R&D.
Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14
I have StopTech 14" Fronts, stock rears, BM3 pads, stock '02 wheels, stock tires, Cone cooling and deflectors.
Without measuring temps how can you say deflectors "help a lot"?
Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14
I already have a big brake kit for occasional track use. I was simply wondering if switching away from my stock (2002) wheels would decrease my brake temperatures.
Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14
I obviously was not clear in my post. Let me try again.
I have heard that different wheels "breathe" differently enough to influence rotor temps.
Based on your pictures and signature, I'm guessing you have a good variety of wheels; stock '02 wheels...
Re: Willow Springs Testing 1 2 3 14
So all your testing is done with the VR-1's? No testing with stock '02 wheels or with the Purners(?) in your thumbnail.
If you have the StopTech front only kit then you should not need Tom's modified rear calipers (your brake system should already be balanced).
Start with running BM3's. They're kind of noisy and dusty on the street, but they do OK as a street/track pad.
American Collectors offers driver's ed insurance providing coverage for an unlimited number of events per year. The policy value is based on the Car's Blue Book. Then, the annual cost is 1.5% with a 20% deductible.
For example; a $50,000 Viper would cost $750 per year to cover. Wreck it, and...
I've run air deflectors using several different mounting methods, and yes, I run the deflectors in addition to using the Cone cooling kit. The methods I have tried are;
1. Brackets from Woodhouse. These are V-shaped pieces of aluminum flat stock which bolt to the factory holes in the...
Wait for Tom F&L to chime in before you dump that bottle in the tank. I recall him saying that a lot of the chemicals find their way into the oil, and therefore cleaners should only be used just before an oil change.
