I ran one this last weekend in Fresno, it was a blast. Here is the 2006 event calendar. SCCA 2006 events caledar

I was thinking of running this one in Monterey - 11/11 Sat - [UFO (formerly NASA-X] Autox #14 - Marina .

Anyone interested?

For those who don't know what autocross is.... It is a course setup in a huge open lot. Laid out with cones. You have to get through the course as fast as possible, staying on the course and not knocking over any cones.

You don't need to be a member or anything like that.

You DO need; Valid Driver’s License, Helmet (SNELL 95 or better) and some cash. It's 25-30 dollars per run group. Typically you get 3 or 5 runs per run group...depending on the event.

I'd love to go to one that's more Viper oriented, and not just an open invite to all who show up... more time driving and less time cooking in the sun.

Sure me too but you'd need more than a handful of vipers to pull that off.

The Fresno event I ran Sunday was not crowded at all. I'd say 50-60 cars ran for the whole day. My runs were spaced about 10 minutes appart. I've seen the San Jose event at De Anza load up with a couple hundred cars...plus the course is small and the pavement is slick...not as fun.

I don't know how crowded the Marina event is...I'll look into it.

Asked the question on another site...here is the answer.

------

The UFO events at Marina have averaged about 90, sometime a lot less, the high was 12X at the last event. Hard to say how many will show up... If you do regular season event with SFR SCCA in the bay area (candlestick, golden gate fields, oakland coliseum....) they average close to 300 and only do 3 runs.... UFO does 4 runs, AAS and FresnoSCCA do 5 runs.

------

So Monterey should be fun as long as it doesn't rain.

We can join with the porsche or vette club and do something a bit more targeted. What are the costs and steps to set this up?

That's only on long drives. :bonker: :nana:

But hey, since the Vipair install, the car practically drives itself on top of the added 5000 HPs. :p

SO you're the guy that ordered a vipair that needed it to be delivered in a plain brown wrapper

Warfie, If you are ever headed north on the 101, Santa Rosa area, drop by, I'll let you try out a Gen 2 with a dead pedal, but no vipair, my 97 gen 2 has a factory one already ( RT/10 ) and my 2000GTS is probably a little too powerful for you to handle... :nana:

Ill be joining Kurtis. Should be fun. Sure it would be nice to have ALL Vipers or high end cars, exotics, but theres not enough of us to make a good turnout. There will probably only be 5-10 of us Viper owners out there. And Kurtis said there were a few Vettes and Porsche's at last event. The rest are Miata's and smaller Autox set up cars. You need 50+ people to pull off a good day at a reasonable cost. If someoene can get all Vipers , Id be willing to go,but for now I think we will have to join up on regular events already set up.

What would be considered a "good day" and "reasonable cost"? (not sarcasm)

It doesn't have to be all Vipers or exotics. It can be an invitational, where everyone there has at least a loose connection there to someone else... keeps the @$$hole factor down. I'd rather pay more and keep it small.

Sure the fewer the participants the fewer the a$$holes. The Fresno and Montery events tend have less people/cars. I'm not interested in going to a big crowded event with a bunch of morons spazzing out in their chopped spring Civics.

Anyway you do need at least 50 or so participants to make it work...you need enough people to work the course while others race.

Working a run group means. You go out onto the course to a station usually with one or two ther people to right cones and radio the base about problems/issues on the course. The stations are spaced out at intervals along the course.

So if you had 50 show, 25 would race while the other 25 worked the course.

I don't know what it would cost to charter a course and host an event. If you want to look into it and set it up, I would definatly attend.

In the mean time, I'm planning on going to Monterey on the 11th, it would be cool if some other Vipers joined us.

Monterey is a bit far out of the way for me... maybe we can get something together at golden gate fields

Sounds good if we can pull off the invite only. Otherwise I'd pass on a regular event there....too many people.

Sounds interesting.

Back in the day I used to be a regular cone dodger. Is Dennis still the kingpin with UFO (United 510 Owners club)?

I unfortunately have several conflicts that day, but please tell Dennis and Peggy Hale that Jim Kermode says hello and I will be at a future event.
